Catch Up with Us: What Happened at Camp This Year?

Every year at camp is our new “best summer ever,” and 2023 was no exception! But what did that look like in action? There are so many details that go into each summer and off-season, but here’s an overview of what you might have missed this year in Tuxedo.

News from the Summer:

  • We introduced a new Mission Statement: To delight and inspire for the glory of God. This is what Greystone has been about for 104 years; we just condensed it to a few words! We used this new statement to anchor our summer staff training, and it serves as the foundation for every decision we make year-round.
  • The Dining Hall was back to normal! Campers and counselors alike were thrilled to go back to square tables and rotating to sit with new friends each week. We kept the best of both worlds, though: on a camper’s birthday, she got to sit with her cabin and counselor on the Dining Hall porch for lunch! This was a huge hit, and it wasn’t just because the table got a cookie cake.
  • We got the best of both worlds with the Pavilion and the outdoor stage. We have loved having Morning Assembly and Evening Programs on the Pageant Court these last couple of years, but there’s no beating the Pavilion for certain events! This year, we transitioned back into the Pavilion for many Morning Assemblies and some special EPs.

  • We introduced some great new classes and brought back old favorites. Junior campers got to try out “Junk 2 Funk” and STEM class! June, Main, and August campers got to sign up for Aerial Yoga, Photography, and Calligraphy/Drawing again. High Adventure, High Ropes, Mountain Biking, Riflery, Putt Cove, and Waterpark also got great updates! You can see all of the activities we offered here.
  • Our theme verse was John 16:33 and we focused on peace. Our ministers (including two guest speakers we think you’ll know - Dan Strull and Elizabeth Madden Pehrson!) spoke on this topic all summer long, and you can listen to their Morning Assembly talks and Sunday sermons on our website!
  • We had some of the most incredible Evening Programs ever and countless other memorable moments. Check out more of our favorite memories from the summer here. We’ll be talking about these for a long, long time, and now you can too!
