10+ Fun Ways to Connect as a Camp Parent this Year

Summer might still be a few months away, but the countdown has officially begun! Whether this is your first year sending a camper or your tenth year of summer packing like a pro, there are many fun (and helpful!) ways to connect with camp before Opening Day.

Stay in the Know (and in the Fun!)

  • Join our parent Facebook group. Think of it as the neighborhood group chat, minus any missing dogs. Our Greystone Parent Facebook group is full of tips, stories, and people who totally understand your pre-summer excitement (and can help solve your packing questions as well).

  • Follow our camp blogs. Throughout the year, we share updates, stories, and behind-the-scenes peeks into life at camp; it’s a great way to get the inside scoop before the summer. Subscribe here!

  • Read our daily devotions. A little daily encouragement goes a long way — and reading our daily devos are a fun way to connect with what your camper will experience this summer. These devotions can be sent right to your inbox each morning, making them a perfect family activity before school.

  • Follow us on social media. Expect fun moments and all the pre-summer chaos (ahem…excitement) that makes camp magical. Follow along with us!

  • Watch our camp videos. From cabin tours to a day in the life, these help your camper picture what’s ahead — and might just make you wish you could sign up too.

  • Check out our new camper blog series this spring. It’s packed with tips, parent insider knowledge, and encouragement for first-timers. Even as a seasoned camp parent, you’re bound to learn something you didn’t know. Check out our archives!

Get Ready Like a Pro

  • Look over the packing list. Turn it into a family game — “Who can find 12 pairs of socks that actually match?” (Spoiler: probably no one.) While we will update these in the spring, the packing lists generally stay the same each year. They also provide a great Christmas shopping list for any needed items!

  • Schedule a camp tour. There’s nothing like seeing camp in person to turn any last butterflies into excitement. Fill out our online form to schedule yours before camp this summer; we can’t wait to see you!

  • Call or email us. Have a question? Need a packing pep talk? Want to confirm that yes, we really do recommend labeling every single item that goes into your trunk? We’re here to help.

Join in with the Camp Community

  • Talk to other camp families. Veteran parents are basically walking encyclopedias of camp wisdom — and usually happy to share. If you don’t know anyone in your town, and your city doesn’t have a Greystone City Facebook group, reach out to us so we can help connect you with other families in your area.

  • Sign up for our Parent PenPal Program! This will open in the spring for Junior and August families, and you’ll get an email when it’s time to register. The Parent Penpal program is a fun way to meet new camp families, share your hard-earned camp tips, or help someone else feel right at home before summer even starts.

  • Help work on Opening Day. While this is more of a “help participate as camp gets going” type of way to connect, it is so much fun to work Opening Day. Even if you’re dropping off your daughter, you can circle back around and jump in with our crew. Registration for this will go live after the holidays; be on the lookout on our blog!

  • Pray for the summer ahead. Join us in praying for the campers, counselors, and all the adventures this upcoming year. You can use this resource from a previous pre-summer blog to get started even now. (Bonus: praying is free and doesn’t require bug spray…and we covet your prayers!)

Summer will be here before you know it — and we can’t wait to see you (and your daughter!) at camp. Until then, try one (or all) of these ideas to get connected, stay in the loop, and keep that camp countdown going strong. Reach out if we can help in any way!
