Any COVID updates needed for our 2022 summer will be sent out in the spring before camp.

Food & The Fort

We are so excited to introduce you to our brand new open-air dining facility: The Four-Fold Court (“The Fort”)! This structure is located near the track and is taking the place of the Riding ring that was between the soccer field and softball field. This HUGE new building will be able to accommodate all of our campers at one time so that we can eat together as a whole camp community, properly spaced, outside, and under a roof. The Fort is so large, you could fit 4 Pavilions inside of it! This year, we are using The Fort as our Dining Hall (or “Dining Fort”) and in the future, this covered gym will house an indoor basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts (making it our “Sports Fort”). Our campers will love this new space!

Eating Family-Style

Campers will enjoy the same delicious food that they know and love while eating each meal with their cabin group. Tables will be spaced at least 6 feet apart from other Families. Girls will stay with their cabin group at the same table throughout the session.

Food Portions & Fruit/Salad Bars

Our goal is to limit campers and staff moving around The Fort during the meal, so we will serve larger portions of food to every table when we first bring out the food. We know our campers love the fruit and salad bars during meals, so to do away with self-serve options that lead to the touching of shared equipment, we will bring the fruit and salad to the cabin’s table! At breakfast, campers will receive a variety of fruit on their table as well as cereal, yogurt, and granola (in addition to the main breakfast meal). During lunch and dinner, each table will also receive a large salad (with fun salad toppings!) alongside the main dishes and our famous camp bread.

If a camper needs a refill, or would like additional toppings for their salad, we will have modified ways for campers to go through our Kitchen buffet lines for these items. We will distance campers from each other, utilize directional signs to show girls where to go, and have our Kitchen Staff serving at these tables (instead of campers self-serving and touching serving utensils).

Allergy and Specialty Foods

Allergy-free foods will continue to be a priority, just like they are every summer. This year, the allergy-free food will be served by our Kitchen Staff in a buffet line along with the vegetarian and vegan options for that meal.

If your daughter has a food allergy, please make sure we are aware of it through your Online Health Forms prior to camp. Also, email our Kitchen Director before camp to set up a time to talk through any of your questions or concerns. He would love to discuss your daughter’s particular allergies or food restrictions before you arrive and can better explain how she can enjoy our wonderful food this summer! Gervais and the Kitchen Staff will be waiting at the camper scone tent on Opening Day to talk with any campers who have a food allergy.

Singing

Because our tables will be spaced 6 feet apart in The Fort, and girls will be facing each other at the table, we still plan to enjoy our wonderful Greystone songs after each meal!

Other Camp Foods

Our campers will continue to enjoy apples and watermelon daily as part of our normal camp routine. Camper favorite Candy Shoppe will be served through spaced lines, and on some days, will be served directly to each table in The Fort. We are updating how campers are able to pick up Ice Hut snacks throughout the day, but rest assured that camper favorites (granola bars, Beanitos, and string cheese) will still be available.

Kitchen Staff Protocols

Our Greystone Kitchen has always been a clean and safe place to work, and we consistently earn an average health score of 99% each year. During any typical summer, we already follow proper food handling guidelines and cleaning protocols. This summer, we are doubling down to ensure that we are adhering to the updated guidelines from the CDC and the Henderson County Department of Health.

Our Kitchen Staff will also be following our summer staff policies including dividing into family groups, maintaining physical distance in the Kitchen, daily symptom monitoring, coming to camp after a quarantine and negative PCR test, and remaining on camp property during time off.

Water Bottle Washing

We will have a system to wash camper water bottles through our industrial dishwashing machines in our Kitchen. You can read about how girls will wash their water bottles on our Health and Safety page.

Wondering how to explain this to your camper? Hear from one of our Directors!
