You did it! Your daughter is enrolled for a summer at Greystone, and now you may be wondering…what exactly are you supposed to do next?
The good news? Not much yet!
If this is your first summer, you might assume that there is a long checklist of things you should be doing already. But don’t worry, there is not much you need to be doing now. As the summer gets closer, we will send you LOTS of information and walk you through everything you need to know.
For now, here are a few things you can do to start getting excited about the summer ahead.
One of the best things you can do right now is to start talking about Greystone so it feels familiar.
Watch some of our camp videos together. Look through photos on the website. Explore our classes and see what interests your daughter. Listen to some Greystone songs, or read a few blogs from past summers.
You don’t need to study up on camp, but the more familiar it feels, the easier it is for your daughter to picture herself here.
Ask your daughter what she is most excited about. Is she already dreaming about the Blob? Horses? Cooking? Her cabin? Making new friends?
Keep your conversations about camp positive and encouraging. It is normal for new campers to have a few nerves mixed in with the excitement. For now, focus on everything she has to look forward to!
You have plenty of time, but the months before camp are a great opportunity to work on some of those everyday skills that will help your daughter feel confident once she gets here.
Can she wash and brush her own hair? Make her bed? Keep up with her belongings? Spend the night away from home? Entertain herself during a quiet Rest Hour? Speak up when she needs help?
She doesn’t have to have everything figured out yet, but these are great things to start practicing as the summer gets closer.
This one is especially for our new parents!
You do not need to have it all figured out already. In the spring, things will really start rolling towards the summer. New campers receive special mailings just for them, including our New Camper Newsletter, New Camper Questionnaire, and a fun Penpal to connect with. Parents will be able to read the Parent Handbook that we will pop in the mail along with many (many!) emails covering everything you need to know.
We’ll also kick off our New Camper Blog series, where we will dive into the questions first-time families ask us most.
By Opening Day, you are going to know a LOT more about Greystone than you do right now!
There is plenty to explore while you wait for all of that spring information. Check out our New Camper Resources, browse our Preparing for Camp information, watch a few videos, or even come see us for a tour.
But mostly? Get excited.
Your daughter has an incredible summer ahead of her, and we can’t wait to welcome her to Greystone. We’ll make sure you have everything you need along the way. See you soon!
