Communicate with Your Camper and with Us - New Camper Blog Series

Hello new camper families! We are just a few weeks away from the start of the summer, and we are excited today to talk about communication. Let’s jump right in!

Last week, camp mom Virginia gave some great info on how camp will communicate with you overall, and today we are getting into the details. As we talk about communication, here is a short list of the different types of communication you need to know about for the summer:

Ways you can communicate with your daughter:

  • Letters
  • Email

Ways your daughter can communicate with you:

  • Letters
  • Scanned letters

Ways we will communicate with you:

  • Phone
  • Email
  • Remind texts
  • Newsletters
  • Blog
  • Videos

Ways you can communicate with us:

  • Phone
  • Email

Now, let’s look at each of these areas individually, so that you know all of the details before the summer:

Ways you can communicate with your daughter:

Your daughter won’t have access to a phone or a computer, so the best way to communicate is through letters and emails. You can read about these ways of communication on our website, but here are some pointers:

  1. Definitely send letters, not just emails.
  2. Send some letters ahead of time, so your daughter has some mail those first few days.
  3. Share the camp address with family and friends.

Ways your daughter will communicate with you:

As we mentioned above, your daughter will not have access to a phone or computer, so she will be writing to you during the summer…it’s fun! Mostly, your daughter will be sending traditional snail mail (help the letters actually reach you by pre-addressing the envelopes!).

Throughout the session, we will occasionally scan letters from your camper that you will view in your Greystone Account. The first scanned letter will appear in your account within the first three days of camp. During our longer sessions, we will also scan a letter home each Sunday.

Ways we will communicate with you:

We really like for you to know what is going on, so expect to hear from us in numerous ways!

The fun stuff: To learn more about what is happening at camp and to get a small taste of the fun, we will share details with you through our blog (you can even subscribe here) and camp videos. Also, don’t forget to follow us on social media; we share many fun updates and pictures during the summer.

The general stuff: We will send occasional Remind texts and email newsletters to keep you in the loop. Through these avenues, we’ll share details and reminders on camp-specific things, like how to view photos and which address to use for Closing Day arrival.

The personal stuff: If we ever have a question about your daughter, or if we have any concern, we will contact you directly by phone or email. Don’t worry – we will be in touch!

Ways that you can communicate with us:

You can contact us anytime during the summer (or now!); we are always happy to help!

After you drop your daughter off at camp, you will find out the name of our daughter’s Group Leader. This Group Leader is part of our Head Staff team and will be in charge of your daughter’s age group. She is in your daughter’s cabin every day, touching base with your camper and her counselor. She is the very best person to talk to if you have any questions pertaining to your daughter. You can reach the Group Leader by phone or email, and we will pass along her contact information on Opening Day.

Our office is open from 7:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Eastern time during the summer. If you ever need anything, just give us a call (828.693.3182).

Have any questions about communicating with your daughter during the summer? Leave a comment below or contact us – we are happy to help! We will see you back next week for another blog in our New Camper Blog series. Have a great week!
