Opening Day Like the Pros - New Camper Blog Series

Opening Day is just around the corner, and we CANNOT WAIT for you to be pulling into the gates of Greystone! It is such an exciting day…the start of the best summer ever!!

As we are SO CLOSE to the start of your session, here are a few last minute pointers so that you can do Opening Day like the pros!

  • Wear comfortable shoes – you’ll be walking all over the place!
  • Bring an umbrella and/or raincoat in your car – we keep going on Opening Day just like normal, so if it is raining, you will need it.
  • Carry your bedding up the hill from your car so that you can start making your bed right away (instead of waiting for it to arrive on our trailers from the track).
  • Make sure the rest of your bags (your trunk and your duffel) can zip or close correctly – you don’t want anything falling out as we carry it up to your cabin.
  • Arrive early if you want to do the Bunk Run – we recommend getting to camp between 7:30 – 8:15 a.m. (Bunk Run starts at 8:30 a.m.)

  • Check in at our Opening Day Tent (new this year!) when you arrive – we will pair you up with your Group Leader and other girls in your age group so that you can participate in our Bunk Run, knowing where to go. You can also pick up a few Greystone giveaways (and coffee for the parents!)
  • Many camp families recommend bringing duct tape, ziplock bags, trash bags (in case it starts raining), and extra batteries…just in case on Opening Day.
  • Don’t forget bunk decorations, a pillow, and anything else to make your bunk space feel homey.
  • Bring your medicines in their original bottles! Make sure to read our new medication policy in our Parent Handbook or on our website.
  • Make sure you stop by the Dining Hall porch for a famous Greystone scone – they are truly the best and an Opening Day “must do”!
  • Need some Greystone t-shirts or an Odds/Even shirt? Visit our Greystone Store to check out the latest merchandise.
  • Smile, smile, and then smile again. Everyone has that excited/nervous feeling on Opening Day, even our returning campers. Smile and introduce yourself – it’s the best way to quickly make a friend and feel at home.

We cannot wait to see you at Greystone…if you have any last minute questions about Opening Day, or anything else during your session, give us a call. New campers, we will see you soon!!!
