Joseph Maloney

Joe Maloney grew up in a small coal mining town in upstate Pennsylvania named Freeland PA. Graduated from St. Ann’s High School in 1959 and headed to Philadelphia to attend nursing school. His educational background consisted of a RN diploma at St. Joseph Hospital in Philadelphia, BSN from Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, PA, MSN from the University of Pittsburgh, and his PhD from University of Maryland. After retiring from the military, he returned to the academic environment and has taught at the Medical College of Georgia, Austin Peay State University, Caritas Hospital, and currently at Spalding University. He has published over 30 articles to include research papers, book chapters, and various articles in referred journals. Entered the Army as a first lieutenant in November 1965 and retired out of the Presidio, San Francisco in 1992 as a Colonel after serving on active duty for 27 years. His first duty station was at Walson Army Hospital at Fort Dix, NJ. Six months later he was placed on orders for Vietnam and assigned to the 45th MUST (Medical Unit Self Contained hospital). The MUST hospital was the first of its kind which was a MASH unit with air-conditions inflatable units and expandable operating rooms. He went on to serve at numerous in country army hospitals to include: Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Brooke Army Medical Center, and the Presidio in San Francisco, CA. He also was assigned as the Deputy Director of the Nursing Science Division at the Academy of Health Sciences in Fort Sam Houston, TX. His other overseas assignments included the 121 Evacuation Hospital, Seoul, Korea and short consulting assignments to Riyadh, Saudi Aribia, and Heidelberg Germany
