Work Opening or Closing Day!

Have you been missing your summer home? Are you interested in being involved at camp in a very tangible way? If so, come be part of the team that works Opening and Closing Days!

What better people than our alumnae to smile, greet, and show that great Greystone spirit to our campers and their families as they arrive and depart from camp?

The Details

For Opening and Closing Day, we need an upbeat and positive army to pull off the magic for our campers. The more people we have waving, greeting, smiling, and talking to our parents, the better. This past summer, we we were lucky enough to have a few alums help, and they loved being part of the Greystone family again….and we sure loved having them!

Here is what what one alumna had to say:

“Being back in the Greystone bubble was so much fun. And working Opening Day was the best! I loved it so much that I came back to work other Opening Days throughout the summer. Next year, I’m bringing all my camp friends so we can make a reunion out of it.”

And…that’s what we would encourage you to do! If you, or a group of your camp friends, would be interested in helping, we would love to know.

What You’ll be Doing

On Opening and Closing Days, you will most likely be assigned to one of these jobs: waving to our families as they arrive, helping direct traffic or park cars, chatting with parents at the welcome table, directing parents where to go in the cabin area on Closing Day, or greeting parents and checking in campers as they pull in on Opening Day.

With all of these jobs, we’re looking for energetic alumane who can be on their feet for 3-4 hours and who understand that they could be working in the rain or even lots of sun. And, most important, we want alums who can smile and stay upbeat for that entire period of time, making our families feel so welcome at camp.

How it Works with Travel and Housing

While we had a good handful of alumnae who came on their own this past summer, we encourage you to also think about a small group of your Greystone friends who would want to work with you on Opening or Closing Day. We hope you can make a mini-reunion out of helping at camp!

That said, housing at camp is not a guarantee. There is a chance we would have housing available on camp property between sessions, but we wouldn’t know until closer to the summer. The best plan is to find a place nearby for your friends to enjoy for the weekend. And, because it is a weekend between sessions, when our campers and staff are not on property, you and your friends can enjoy a walk on the River Trail, picnic at camp, or play a friendly pickleball game.

The job is mainly volunteer, but we will cover your gas to and from camp (and can throw in a little extra for a coffee drink on the way home). And, you’ll get a snazzy Greystone t-shirt to take with you. We are mainly looking for people who LOVE camp and want to enjoy the camp property and the Greystone experience once again.

What Not to Expect

As you can imagine, Opening and Closing Days are VERY busy for everyone at camp, so you’d need to be pretty self-sufficient. While you can enjoy the property in between sessions, we won’t be able to open all of the activities and locations in camp (as we’ll be getting ready for the next group of girls to arrive!). Also, while our year-round staff will love to give you a hug and thank you immensely, we’ll be busy getting ready for the next session, so know that we won’t have much time to visit (as much as we will want to!).
