New Classes for 2021

Every summer we like to keep a few surprises and new additions up our sleeve, but this year there are just too many fun plans in place to keep it all to ourselves! With these new programs in the works, 2021 really is going to be the best summer yet. Does anyone else wish they were a camper right now to experience these?

The Farm Barn

Our beautiful Barn was originally built in the early 1990s and has been updated and improved over the past 30 years. This summer we are making some of the most exciting changes yet by opening the barn area to ALL of our campers for the very first time! This location is being transformed into our new Farm Barn activity and garden area. It will serve as the hub for multiple classes and seminars throughout the summer, and our campers are going to love it! Are you going to be near Tuxedo? We would love to give you a peek at the fun going on down there!

Barnyard Class

The Farm Barn is going to be the home for Greystone’s newest furry friends: our farm animals! Using our many open fields and paddocks, we are looking forward to adding some fun new animal personalities to our Greystone crew, including a miniature pony, donkeys, sheep, Highland cow, Nigerian dwarf goat, and more.

Expanded Farm and Garden Class

Farm and Garden is fittingly moving down to the Farm Barn area and is greatly expanding. We are putting in hundreds of feet of raised garden beds to grow many different types of fruits and vegetables. The goal is to grow such a large quantity of fresh food (with the help of our campers!) that we can begin to make a dent in our Dining Hall food needs, starting off this new century of Greystone in a more sustainable way. Dr. Sevier would be proud!

We’ll also be adding a new element to Farm and Garden: Libby’s Flower and Butterfly Garden! Libby loved getting her hands in the dirt and growing beautiful flowers, and we are so excited to see campers continue her legacy in this new space. They’ll also practice flower arranging (like the Greystone Girls in the 1940s!), because we’re wanting to bring back the tradition of fresh flowers on every Dining Hall table. Whether she takes Farm and Garden or not, every camper this summer is going to enjoy the bounty of the Farm Barn!

Mountain Biking Class

That’s right! Campers have been asking for Mountain Biking for years, and now that we have the Farm Barn, we finally have the space to offer it. Girls at June, Main, and August will learn the basics and then set off to explore the back-roads of camp on two wheels. This is one of those classes you can learn at camp and then take the skills home with you!

New Waterpark Adventure Element

Just when you thought you’d seen everything down at Waterpark, we’re bringing our campers a brand new challenge: our Adventure Element! Ever seen American Ninja Warrior? Picture that, camp-style, over Lake Edith! We can’t wait to see how campers and staff alike tackle this new element. If you ask us, falling off might be even more fun than making it across - that’s when you get the biggest splash!

Want to see it in action? Check out Ellen Anne’s husband, James, demonstrating it for us on our Instagram!

Thunderhead Ranch

As we are changing our Barn area into our new and improved Farm Barn location, we are updating our Riding program as well. Introducing Thunderhead Ranch! We took our campers’ favorite parts of Riding and wrapped them up into one Riding program that our June, Main, and August campers are going to love.

With our very own cowgirl (and new Riding Director!) Heidi Dack in the lead, we have some incredible plans in the works for the Ranch. Riders will spend a relaxed day bonding with their horse (what camp riding is all about!) as they explore our expanded system of mountain trails and then cool off in the Green River, just as Thunderhead riders were able to do in the “old days!” Campers will also try out new activities they can only find at the Ranch like lassoing, leather-working, tubing, gold-panning, tee-pee building, and more.

Horses have always been a big part of Greystone, and we are so excited about this new direction. More campers than ever will be able to experience the joy of being on a horse and the magic of Thunderhead, with an updated “ranch” twist!
