What if My Daughter Needs Something While at Camp - New Camper Blog Series

Welcome back new camper families! It is hard to believe that we are a month away from camp and only have a few more posts in our New Camper Blog series this year. If you have any questions about any of the topics we have covered, or wish you knew more about something specific, let us know!

Last week, we dove into packing for our camp traditions, and next week we’ve got a great parent blog about how to actually pack for camp (it’s a true art form!). For this week, we’re going to talk about what to do if you forgot to pack something for your daughter, because as you can imagine, it happens! (And, if you need to find our packing lists, check out our Packing for Camp page.)

Necessary items left at home

After dropping off your daughter on Opening Day, if you return home and realize her tennis shoes are sitting by the front door, you can send them to her. We are Package-free at camp, meaning we don’t allow packages, but we do make exceptions for necessary items that are left at home. Tennis shoes fit in that category! Examples of other necessary items that are okay to send are things like retainers, pillows, a Bible, or eyeglasses. It would be hard to do without these things, so they are approved items to send in.

To mail these items, you must address them correctly! Otherwise, there’s a good chance the package will be returned. For addressing, mail the package to:
Laura Hollowell
ATTN: (Your Camper’s FULL Name)
21 Camp Greystone Lane
Zirconia, NC 28790

When the properly addressed package arrives, we will get the items to your daughter right away!

Ordering forgotten or requested items through the Greystone Store

The Greystone Store is an excellent resource for delivering items to your daughter that she may have forgotten at home. Or, if receive one of your weekly scanned letters from your camper asking that you send more stationery, replacement batteries, or some more toothpaste, all of these items are easy to order through The Greystone Store website. Find the items, and when you check-out, you can select the “in camp delivery” option to have the items delivered. The Store has a fast turnaround that is much quicker than when you (the parent) mail a package from home.

You can browse The Greystone Store website to see what is available, but just know that everything from a toothbrush to a flashlight to stamps for a letter can be purchased through The Store and taken to your daughter the very next day.

Items you can’t send

There are quite a few items that are considered unnecessary and cannot be sent to camp. These include magazines, fun games and toys, new pens for Rest Hour, extra clothes, costumes, and other items like these. Campers can function without these things (hence making them “unnecessary”), so please don’t send them to camp! If these items are sent, they are donated to a local shelter. Also, campers can’t have any food, so anything food-related that is sent also is donated to the shelter.

Remind your family and friends

Our camp parents usually do a great job of remembering our package-free policy, but please make sure to tell your friends and family. Those grandmas sure like to send some special goodies, but unfortunately, we can’t deliver them.

Hopefully you won’t forget to pack anything for the summer, but if you do, know that you’ve got options! Feel free to give us a call in the summer if you’re not sure what to do or if you have a question about if a certain item can be shipped to camp; we can let you know.

Happy packing, and we will see you next week!
