Jimboy and Margaret

  1. They first met on the Greystone Swim Docks on Lake Summit. He was a canoeing counselor at Falling Creek, she was a fencing counselor at Greystone (no, she was not a good fencer, but she was able to fake it!). Jimboy was supposed to be “looking up” another girl at Greystone who his mother thought would be “very nice” for him to meet. While he and Margaret were at the same place and met each other, nothing happened and they went their separate ways.
  2. 7 years later he was running the kitchen (the campers called him “the cook”), Margaret was the camp doctor. This time they noticed each other and the sparks flew! He asked her to marry him 3 months later.
  3. They got married at camp, and had many camp friends in their wedding.

Ellen Anne and James

  1. They met in college at Pepperdine and were “just friends.” Another friend told him about Greystone and he applied to work that next summer without her even knowing!
  2. They fell in love at camp and the rest is history! They dated for 3 years, got married in California, moved to Colorado, and are now settled in Asheville.
  3. This month is their 10 year anniversary!

Sarah and Rob

  1. They met when they were both working year-round at camp - Sarah was doing an internship and Rob was working on maintenance. Sarah was living in DC4 (before it was renovated) and there was a big rats nest and mice everywhere in the house. She asked Rob to come over and move the mice out - and it was only heart eyes from there.
  2. When they were living at camp, Sarah’s cabin didn’t have heat, so rumor is, they started hanging out just so she could get out of the cold!
  3. They got engaged in a cabin in the woods in Tennessee. It had no electricity, no heat, no running water (it had an actual outhouse) and had about 3 inches of dirt/dust on the floor and lots of snake skins. Rob took her there as he thought it was a romantic place to cook dinner. He proposed to Sarah while I had a mouthful of macaroni and cheese. It was still a yes!

Elizabeth and Devan

  1. They met at camp working in Ceramics - he was her boss!
  2. Their first four summers spent together were all at camp, first friends, then dating, then engaged, then married.
  3. They were one of the first couples to get married in the Council Fire ring. (all the heart eyes!)

Sandi and Bill

  1. It was love at first sight when they met at camp. They met when Sandi was working in the kitchen and Bill was teaching tennis. They met and got engaged just months later!
  2. On their first date they miscommunicated about how they were going to meet up so they both thought the other had stood them up!
  3. Bill proposed the summer of 2000 at the end of an EP one night after reciting Proverbs 31. It was a big surprise because he had faked Sandi out by asking just a few nights beforehand if she was open to moving to NYC since they had never dated in the same city. She was not and almost broke up with him for even asking! The engagement smoothed things out.

Laura and Gervais

  1. Gervais and Laura met on a blind date, set up by her sister, while he was at Wofford and she was at Converse.
  2. They got engaged at Wofford a year and a half later. She was living at camp with Katie and working for Greystone after she graduated. (Laura was a Group Leader that summer and cried so hard at the end of August Camp because she was sure it would be her last summer ever at camp - little did she know!)
  3. They married in November surrounded by tons of Greystone friends.

Katie and Greg

  1. Greg and Katie met on E-Harmony 18 years ago this March, before online dating was a big thing!
  2. They started talking about getting married that fall, and he gave her a ring and asked her to marry him in December, at his office in Chattanooga TN.
  3. They eloped and got married on Dec 31st in a beautiful stone chapel in Chattanooga, and the next day she went back to camp and he back to work!

Lell and Peter

  1. Peter and Lell met in Steamboat Springs, CO. She had moved there because of an old camp friend! They attended the same church but did not go to the same service so they did not officially meet until they both attended an Easter lunch at a mutual friend’s apartment.
  2. Peter then came and worked the summer at camp to meet Lell’s parents and experience Greystone.
  3. Peter never officially proposed! They just talked about marriage and decided to get married on April Fool’s Day. So many people kidded them about the date that they actually thought about getting married the evening before at the rehearsal and leaving a sign on the church door the next day saying “We got married last night, see you at the reception. Ha Ha we fooled YOU!” But they didn’t, even though it was tempting!

Lisa and Danny

  1. They first met at the Pavilion when it was being built. He was on the construction crew and she was working at the barn.
  2. Their first date was at Thunderhead when he brought his guitar to play for the riding staff around the campfire - romantic!
  3. Their first home together after getting married was actually DC5, when it used to be a cabin with a kitchen.

Cat and Peter

  1. They met through RUF at Wofford when they were paired together to lead a co-ed Bible Study. She thought he was awkward and he thought she was a silly sorority girl, but they became great friends.
  2. She dragged him to camp with her, where he worked for a few summers, first on High Ropes, and then as Travel Director.
  3. She threw up when he proposed, but was able to hold it together the next Spring when they got married at camp!
