Our Most Embarrassing Camp Moments

When you’re living this closely with 500 other girls for a matter of weeks, you’re bound to experience an embarrassing moment or two! Whether it’s tripping up the hill on Opening Day or dropping your silverware caddy in the Dining Hall (who hasn’t done that a time or two?), we’ve all experienced our fair share of mishaps.

Today we’re sharing just a few of the moments that still make our Head Staff cringe (but mostly laugh a lot!). The best part about camp embarrassments though? When they happen among your best friends in the world, they’re really not that bad! No matter what happens to you this summer, you’re going to be met with love - people here laugh with you, not at you - and we guarantee it won’t be as bad as what we’ve been through!

At Putt Cove, my bathing suit top slipped down when one of the men staff was helping me get out of the water. He immediately dropped me back in the water. For a moment, while underwater, I thought would just stay down there forever.

It was 1967 and I was nominated for Captain or Lieutenant of the Evens. We were sent up to Cabin 10 to wait. I was a camper in Cabin 8, and we used to kick the screen door open to leave the cabin. When they announced we could come down to the campfire, I ran to the door, kicked it to open it, and ran out. I had no clue there was a trunk behind the door and ran head first into it. I split my forehead open! Embarrassing for sure!

Upper Tentalow One. First year at camp. Banquet Day. In the golden years, when we had the hot dog buffet behind the kitchen in front of the tentalow showers and ALL the kitchen boys were there…

I ran to the showers in a towel, fell and the towel flew off…needless to say, out of embarrassment, I did not pick my towel off the ground, but decided to run the rest of the way naked. I. Was. Mortified.

Just this past summer I had a horrible cough (sounds innocuous, right?). One day during the worst of it, I was on the Dining Hall porch right after lunch (hello whole camp felt like it was watching). I coughed so hard that I threw up AND wet my pants completely AT THE SAME TIME.

Nothing in life prepares you for that situation, so I excused myself and let Nurse Jamie take pity on me. An ice pop made it only a little better.

Caroline

I fell down in front of Ceramics when I was leaving my cabin after Rest Hour. All of these people saw it and I was really trying to act like it wasn’t a big deal, but I ended up needing to go get stitches in the Health Hut and was bleeding everywhere. Definitely a low point!

Alli

A friend gave me a wedgie next to the swing set but accidentally grabbed my underwear in addition to my shorts, so my entire rear end was hanging out! I don’t actually think anyone say, but I felt like the entirety of camp saw.
