Camp is good. You would have been so happy to see your daughter Singing in the dining hall, dancing on the pageant court,, and listening intently to the first cabin devotion. There is a sweet spirit in this place, and we are all just glad to be here; especially on days like this. The weather is perfect, we are connecting with friends (new and old), and have five weeks ahead of us. It is the first day of a great vacation and spirits are high.

Last night’s Program Skits were great. The counselors were witty, delightfully hamming it up for the crowd of campers. The outdoor setting enhanced the acts, as we savored the cool breeze coming off the lake and the soft dappled sunlight filtered by the 100-year-old poplar trees. It was laid back and funny at the same time. Clouds gathered as the night progressed and just as we prayed to dismiss, a light rain began to fall. The shower soon became a downpour and the girls ran back to their cabins with squeals of delight. The perfect ending to a perfect day.

The Tentalow Lip Sync EP tonight will be fun. The girls were already debating which theme song to choose and showing off their best dance moves yesterday afternoon. By showtime tonight, they will be ready to perform a great show! I bet we will have time to catch fireflies after the show, always a favorite activity that time of day. The fireflies are part of everyone’s camp memory, quietly arising from our feet, easily caught and quickly let go. Hopefully, we will have a camp-wide dance party on Sheperd Gazebo stage before Call to Quarters blows.

You might be interested in the “trends” we saw in the girls activity choices yesterday.

  • Senior Bible (rising 9th to 12th grade) had 146 sign up… about half of the eligible girls!
  • Ceramics continues to be a favorite activity (half of camp takes that class)
  • Cooking is so popular we do it as a “Mid Session Switch” class, expecting almost everyone will want to participate.
  • Cooking in the Garden had ⅓ of camp sign up.
  • Senior play (performing “Into the Woods” and meeting every day for two class periods) had an impressive 32 girls sign up.
  • Zumba and Fitness three fourths of camp do these classes.
  • High Ropes and High Adventure half of camp.
  • Mahjong is amazing… able to accommodate 32 campers in every class, separating into advanced girls for the first week then having the advanced take a place at the beginner tables later on (thus becoming leaders of that tables game). We doubled the capacity this year and will soon get eight new sets to play with in “the club cave”. We will put four sets in the FORT so girls can play anytime. They love this game, now becoming the favorite game of Greystone.
  • Tennis is the biggest program area, Syncro a close second. Iconic Greystone activities.
  • Waterpark is popular as ever (half of camp).

The girls have a couple days to change their schedule, then we are locked in for the summer. These numbers will change, but probably not significantly… will let you know if we discover anything surprising.

We are so very grateful to share this summer with your girls… grateful for your prayers… grateful for your support. THANK YOU
