I rarely put my own picture in the blog. Campers and counselors are the theme of every post so it is appropriate that they are featured, but today I wanted to indulge my nostalgia. A great camp session takes root in those who were there, and when the session ends, it feels bad. It hurts. So as I thumbed through the pictures from yesterday in preparation for this post, I teared up a little bit… for I already miss the girls.

Thank you for sharing them with us for three weeks. It was a long time for you to commit to being apart, and I know it was hard for some of you. Hopefully, those pangs have passed, and you are confident that the decision to go to camp was a good one. Hopefully, you are now a believer in the good of camp… that three weeks is not too long when at Greystone.

Here is a place where 7-year-olds confidently strike up conversations with teenagers and adults alike. Where smiles come quickly and are met by smiles and a quick conversation. Where crazy fun is followed by silent moments of contemplation as we recognize the important things of life. This place is special, a fact that all Greystone girls understand. For this reason, a Greystone sweatshirt spotted across the room in an airport leads to a new friendship, with numbers shared. A silver bracelet from metal jewelry is similar to one worn by another girl in college, which leads to a new roommate the next year. Such friendships are made and renewed for many years because that old spark of love that Greystone girls share quickly blazes up again despite the time. Camp is awesome. This is not hyperbole; it is fact.

So, thank you again for reading the blog and supporting our camp. We sincerely consider it an honor to be a part of your family and have taken great delight in the work. I say this on behalf of Margaret and myself, our family, our director team, and all of the counselors. All of us have been impacted just as deeply as the campers, and we are grateful.

Safe travels and a happy reunion weekend for you all. Hopefully, some of the stories of the summer will be shared in the days to come. Listen attentively, with a discerning eye, to the majesty in the mundane details. Heaven is filled with such moments!
