I expect just a few June parents are reading the Blog today. I expect these people to be detail-oriented, prioritize preparation, and value a “heads up” on opening day. I do not expect many will read it, so I will not go into anything important. So if fluffy content appeals to you today, read on!
First of all… MUD! There is a good chance your tires will get muddy tomorrow. We prayed that this would not happen, but God had a better plan. It rained last night and is cloudy today, so the field will be soggy tomorrow. This will slightly slow the unloading process, but we will do our best. Thank you for your understanding!
It might be a good idea to read over the Opening Day information on our website. You are mostly “old timers”, having already done this routine a time or two (we once again have 100% returning campers at June and Main camps this year) but a quick scan might help even you!
Steel yourself for fewer photos this summer. I will go into this again tomorrow because it is a subject important to MANY parents. We know you love LOTS of photos, but we made this change with the campers in mind. Not having photographers everywhere around camp at all hours of the day is a good thing. We have seen the benefit at Junior Camp and hope to improve the service at June Camp… but our priority is the camper experience. Camp is a place to escape the pressure to look beautiful, fashionable, and “perfect”. We will provide times to get photos with friends, in Sunday dresses, and with cabin mates… but we are not going to post 300,000 photos this summer. You will not get lots of photos tagged every day… but we will try to get a few every week. Set expectations low and see if we exceed them. If it doesn’t improve the camp experience, we will adapt accordingly.
Expect the best! We are very upbeat and positive at Greystone. We always look for the silver lining in every situation… so take this with a grain of salt… but we think that this is going to be our BEST YEAR EVER!!! Junior Camp was phenomenal. The feeling in camp was sublime… with ALL NEW CAMPERS (90% of the camper group had never been to Greystone before). The June campers will be much more confident, engaged, joyful, and excited. They will be ready to play the camp game from day 1, and such a group will make this experience amazing. Great Expectations are warranted!
Safe travels, see you tomorrow!
