Under Construction: A Peek at What’s New Around Camp

If there’s one thing we love almost as much as summer itself, it’s getting camp ready for summer! While the lake is quiet and the Dining Hall is empty this winter, our Maintenance team has been busy all over our campus: fixing, building, improving, and dreaming up ways to make camp even better for the months ahead.

This edition of Under Construction highlights three projects that we’re especially excited about: some much-needed (and very beautiful!) new stairs, big progress on our new riding rings, and continued updates to our Tentalow bathrooms. Let’s take a look!

New Stairs at the Gym & Dance Room

If you’ve ever walked up the stairs to the gym or the dance room with a group of friends, you know just how much action those steps see each summer. After years of faithful service, those stairs were starting to show their age. The wood was wearing down, and underneath the gym stairs, the gravel base was holding water in ways we didn’t love.

So this year, we decided it was time for a refresh!

We started from the ground up (literally), pouring concrete beneath the gym stairs to replace the gravel base. This gives us a much sturdier foundation and does a far better job of preventing water from sticking around where it shouldn’t. From there, our talented carpenters on the Maintenance team got to work rebuilding both sets of stairs.

The result? Strong, safe, and beautiful new staircases that look great and will serve Greystone well for years to come. They blend right in with their surroundings, but trust us – they’re a big upgrade, and we can’t wait for campers to use them this summer.

New Riding Rings in the River Pasture

One of our most exciting additions for this summer is our new English riding program, and with it comes a big (and very visible!) project: two brand-new riding rings.

These rings are taking shape in the river pasture, an open area near the river trail that’s been transformed over the past few months. What was once a wide, grassy space is now a carefully planned site designed specifically for riding. We’ve brought in loads of dirt, graded the area, and are in the process of fine-tuning the surface to make it just right.

Next up: posts, fencing, and all the finishing touches that will officially turn this space into a home for our new riding program. The openness of the area combined with its proximity to the river makes it a really special spot, and we’re thrilled to see it come to life.

Tentalow Bathroom Renovations (Phase Two!)

If you stayed in the Tentalows last summer, you may have noticed some shiny new bathrooms. That was just the beginning!

Last year, we renovated the upper Tentalows along with a couple of bungalows, introducing our new and improved bathroom design. This fall, we’ve continued that work with Tentalows 6 through 10 (both upper and lower!) and we’re excited to keep the momentum going.

Each of these Tentalows is getting the same updated layout and finishes that campers loved last year. Our Maintenance team jumped in to help with demolition, and our incredible contractors have been hard at work transforming these spaces from the inside out. Our goal is simple: clean, functional, welcoming bathrooms that make everyday camp life smoother and more comfortable.

We’re so grateful for the teamwork behind this project, and we know campers will appreciate the results when summer arrives!

From stairs to saddles to showers, these projects are all about caring for camp and preparing our property for another unforgettable summer. We can’t wait for you to see (and use!) it all very soon. Summer is coming – and we’re getting ready!
