Come Work Opening or Closing Day With Us!

There are so many ways to be part of the Greystone community, and working Opening or Closing Day might be the most fun. Every summer, we look for a crew of friendly, energetic helpers to jump in on our Opening Closing Days, and we’re inviting YOU to join us: parents, alums, former staff, and friends of Greystone. If you can smile, wave, and bring cheerful energy for a few hours, we’d love to have you on the team!

Why this is the BEST kind of volunteering

Opening and Closing Days are full of so many emotions: excited campers, eager parents, happy reunions, and that “we’re ready for the summer!” energy. Having extra hands for our big Opening and Closing Days makes the process run smoothly, helping our families feel welcomed and cared for from the first moment they pull through the gates.

It’s also just plain fun. That excited camp buzz is contagious!

What you’ll actually do

Spoiler: you don’t need special skills. We’ll send your assignment ahead of time, but most jobs fall into the “helpful, joyful, smiling, on your feet” type of work. Typical assignments include things like:

  • Greeting cars and waving families in (your arm will get a workout)
  • Helping direct traffic and parking
  • Welcome table help and parent direction (especially on Closing Day)
  • Walking campers to check-in and helping with the flow of lines
  • Helping with some of the “logistics side” (like luggage tagging)

What we’re really looking for: people who can stay upbeat for a few hours in the morning, keep things moving, and help families feel ready-for-camp, rain or shine.

When is it?

We are looking for help for our June, Main, and August sessions for both Opening and Closing Days. Here are the session dates for 2026 (Opening Day is the first day; Closing Day is the last day):

  • June Camp: Monday, June 1 – Friday, June 19, 2026
  • Main Camp: Monday, June 22 – Thursday, July 23, 2026
  • August Camp: Monday, July 27 – Friday, August 7, 2026

How long is the shift?

It’s a morning commitment, generally about 3 - 4 hours from 8:15 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Optional: This year, we are also offering for a handful of people to stay through lunch on Opening Days to help into the early afternoon.

Perks (because everyone loves a camp perk!)

  • This is a volunteer role, but never fear, you’ll get a Greystone t-shirt!
  • If you’re already in town and around between sessions, you’ll have the chance to walk around camp and enjoy the facilities (think: pickleball game, walk on the River Trail, chat down in the chairs by the lake)
  • The opportunity to smile and have fun with fellow parents, alums, and staff; it is a great and energetic group of people!

A few quick FAQs

Can I come even if I’m not an alum? Absolutely. If you love Greystone and want to help, we’d love your help!

If I’m a camp parent who has a daughter attending, can I still work the session she is attending? For Opening Day, a resounding YES! We have many parents who drop off their daughters (like normal) and then circle around to help. Closing Day, we don’t recommend it; you’ll miss the chance to walk up to your daughter’s cabin and meet her friends.

Can I come alone? Of course! We have many volunteers come solo for the morning. But if you bring a friend, it turns into an instant “mini reunion” (even if your friend is just another camp parent who also loves a good early-morning volunteer job).

Do you provide housing? No, we are packed for the summer! Most people drive in the morning of or stay nearby, making it a fun weekend get-away.
