We have entered our final week, a week that is guaranteed to resonate with everyone at camp. Every moment will be celebrated by campers and counselors alike. This is particularly true of the upcoming EPs. It is hard to say who is more excited about the production EP tonight. The campers who are performing (about 30% of the camp) have anticipated this moment on stage since they signed up for a class that has a role in the production. Their counselors made intricate plans for each class, building skills toward tonights performance. They are on pins and needles and will celebrate more than anyone the success that will certainly happen after the music stops. Dance, Drama, Singing, Guitar, and other “surprise” acts that I don’t even know about yet. It is like a huge talent show, except the acts are all very well-choreographed and performed with confidence. They enter the stage on cue, hit their marks, and move as one, doing an act that they have practiced to perfection. It is a great show, one of our only Evening Programs in the Pavilion this session, which will make it extra special. This excitement will double with tomorrow’s big play, “Camp Rock”, then get even higher the next two nights. Time literally flies with such moments filling our imaginations.
At this point of the session, it is possible that you are already wrestling with the difficult decision about whether or not to return to camp next year. One Hundred and Fifteen of our June Campers are rising 8th graders and can only return to Main Camp. Most of these girls will not attend Main Camp, so we make an effort to ensure that they feel the impact of this transition year. They have come to camp for a long time and are now graduating… we’re so glad that they were given the big pennants at the first council fire as a memento of Greystone. There are reasons why we limit camp ages We explained our thinking in a Blog a couple of years ago, if you’re curious.
Sisters… We encouraged sisters to get their pictures taken together after church yesterday. They obviously liked getting their pictures taken in their Sunday best!
The weather remains very pleasant. Sunday saw high temperatures in the low 80s, accompanied by a steady cool breeze. Today will be a repeat (with less wind and a higher chance of evening showers). This pattern will continue for the entire week.
We changed tables for the last time today. With this minor adjustment, the volume level in the dining room decreased considerably (as the girls adjusted to their new friends). This reprieve will only last one meal… by lunch, it will be raucous again!
Classes are more intense as the girls strive to meet goals, pass levels, complete projects, and perfect their performances.
Laughter… Light-hearted joy fills our hearts this week and we laugh a lot as that joy bubbles over. Part of the joy is just being at camp, but part of it is the anticipation of the upcoming reunions on Friday.
