Welcome to Main Camp!

The blog is our way of communicating with you every day of the summer. I make it a priority in my day, posting before noon if possible (typically around 11:30) so that you can use the information with your emails (delivered after lunch). I write it from the heart and always include bullet point details (menu, weather, EP) at the bottom just in case you are in a hurry. I come from a camping family and I have been doing this for a long time… sometimes the perspective helps.

From time to time you might have suggestions or concerns. Never hesitate to let me know! Main Camp opinions matter. You are VIP’s! We know that you value camp and enthusiastically support our mission. You represent the “heart” of our community and we appreciate your input. Most of your feedback will come from the survey at the end of the session but never hesitate to reach out anytime.

Our Opening Day system worked better than ever this year with a little help from our friends. We invited volunteers from our extended community (parents and alumnae) to help with the fun. Their enthusiasm and great day attitudes made a huge impact and they had a blast seeing old friends while playing the camp game for a couple of hours.

Campers love the way drop off works; they never want us to go back to the “bunk run”. No fuss, no waiting, no anxiety… just a quick kiss goodbye and a happy walk up the hill to settle into the cabin. We have found that the girls adjust to camp better on their own. While they might not as good as you when making their bed, they do enjoy setting up their area on their won. They get help from their friends and the counselors while unpacking their stuff, decorating their space, and putting their shoes on the rack. All that activity gives them something to do in those awkward frist moments in the cabin. It facilitates conversations and moments of kindness amongst the group. Their counselors are 100% focused on the girls (rather than the parents) and the cabin environment is much less crazy without those extra people.

While the fast check-in is great, we acknowledge it takes away some things parents like. You don’t meet the counselors, see her cabin, chat with other parents, visit with the Millers, and see the camp improvements. Like I said… not perfect, but it is a hit with the girls!

One way to get a virtual glimpse into the cabin is by checking out the Main Camp Bubble, our attempt to mitigate the lost visiting time on opening day. You will see a video of your counselors, contact information for your Group Leader, the other girls in her cabin, and other things throughout the summer.

The rundown of today:

  • Hot Scones (the girls love them too).
  • A tour of camp with the cabin (nothing better than talking while walking).
  • Health Check with the nurses.
  • Cabin Photos by the lake.
  • Swim test at the pool.
  • Sign up for class schedule.
  • Buffet picnic lunch and “get to know each other” Rest Hour.
  • Our first assembly.
  • Free Activities around camp.
  • First Flag, Spaghetti dinner, Program Skits EP (Program Presentation Skits), Crackers, Call to Quarters, Taps.
  • Weather is perfect: no rain, warm, and breezy.

The comfortable routine of our first day puts everyone at ease and sets us up to hit the ground running tomorrow.

While we feel the responsibility of running camp for the next five weeks, we are confident in the outcome. The Lord has always made the way straight and the journey delightful. We are sure that this is going to be our Best Summer Ever!

Thank you for your support and interest.
