Rain, Rain, Go Away… we are about ready for a change! The forecast calls for gradual improvement in our weather pattern over the course of the day. It is possible that the rain will move out this afternoon, but it may linger through closing day tomorrow. Wear your rain boots, just in case!

Tonight, we will celebrate the end of camp with a Banquet, an event keenly anticipated by the campers, often ranking as their favorite event of the entire summer. It will be a wonderful ending to a wonderful session… beginning with a fun play in the Pavilion before dinner (the counselors performing an adapted story, complete with costumes, singing, and choreography), Banquet favors, a joyful last walk down the lower road, then entering the Dining Hall one by one. We will serve a meal that they LOVE (chicken strips, mac and cheese, fruit, broccoli salad) in a place that has been lavishly decorated. Toasts, awards, presents… it is wonderful. The night culminates with the announcement of the team scores and a shockingly loud roar of exuberant campers. So much fun!

But first, we enjoy our last day. Rainy weather, wonderful friends, fun classes, and giddy excitement. We have one more day to spend at camp, and we are not going to waste it! Our last hours will be marked by expressions of gratitude, joyous laughter, spirited games, and dance parties. It is going to be a Great Day!

Last night, we shared the Me-Me bird story that my Grandmother first used to illustrate unselfishness. It is silly, but the girls love it. They sat in absolute silence, relishing the cozy FORT location (a light rain kept us from the renovated Council Fire area0. Hundreds of awards were handed out, and we finished by forming a giant circle inside the FORT and holding our candles high.

The girls keep their candles and resolve to tuck them away in a box of camp memories just like Dr. Margaret did 40 years ago (she only came to June Camp but was deeply impacted by her experience). We hope that in the months and years to come, these candles will elicit the simple lessons, memories, and feelings of Greystone.

Again, Thank you for your support and encouragement, for sharing your girls, and for reading the Blog.

We are grateful.
