Having a Ball

My Grandmother’s birthday was in July, so her father made sure to treat birthdays as a big deal at camp! He set one day apart to honor these girls in a special way with a Birthday Ball, and that tradition continues tonight. Margaret and I invite these girls to our house for a private party on our porch. We cater a meal that they love (Chipolte) and serve a giant cake for dessert. The girls dress up in their Sunday finest and are on their best behavior but also are very excited to have this special time with us. The meal is a lot of fun, and we usually have time to show them around the house before they rush down to the Talent Show (our nicest EP of the session). About 150 girls have already performed their acts in 3 “mini-talent shows” earlier in the week. Tonight’s variety show promises to be amazing!

The girls absolutely loved Carnival. We enjoyed a perfect setting (slightly overcast, temperatures in the high 70’s, tons of inflatable rides, endless food options), and the girls were SUPER EXCITED! We spread out the mayhem over a large area (the softball, golf, and soccer fields were all used). The effect of this layout is to almost eliminate lines and reduce the chaos which comes from a crowded free activity event. Good fun.

Today will be another perfect day. High 70s, slight chance of afternoon rain, almost full moon tonight. Tomorrow will be a much-needed “Sleep Late Friday” (we give an extra hour to sleep, making up the time with a buffet picnic breakfast). The girls are weary after a big two weeks of camp and need to build up reserves for what is just around the corner. They do not yet realize that Banquet Day is just one week from today. None of us do. Time flies at camp; this thing is certain.

Today’s Breakfast Club focused on the importance of exercise. A typical camper will walk 5 miles a day, enough exercise to have a big impact on our physical condition. We encouraged the girls to make exercise a part of their daily routine; specifically, we encouraged them to ask you to exercise with them (perhaps with daily walks around the neighborhood). A long walk/talk does much to promote healthy living!

Breakfast scrambled eggs, sausage
Joke The Spirit of the Sweet Little Dog
Lunch Hamburgers
Dinner Croque Monsieur with bechamel sauce
EP is the big camper “Talent Show”… should be fun.

Thank you for checking in.
