Book: The Secrets of Happy Families by Bruce Feiler

Timeframe: Sign up now! We will begin reading the book starting September 14 and will be going through the end of October.

The Plan: Each year, our camp parents want to know how they can incorporate what their daughter is learning at camp into life at home. With our new Greystone Parent Book Club, we will be giving you a small piece of that this year.

The Secrets of Happy Families is broken down into three sections, and over the course of six weeks, we will be reading each section in turn. We will take the concepts and ideas that are suggested in the book and help relate those to concepts and ideas that your daughter learns at camp so that you can keep the camp message going during the year. We can’t wait!

The Format: When you sign up for the Greystone Parent Book, you’ll receive a welcome newsletter detailing the schedule throughout September and October. We will be sending three different newsletters throughout the six-week timeframe for the three different sections of the book, giving you pointers and tips on how to connect the book to camp lessons when applying the new concepts to your family.

Buy the Book: Buy the book on Amazon, or check it out from your local library. The Kindle price is under $7, and you can read on the Kindle app without even having a Kindle. If you don’t have an Audible subscription, you can listen to the book for free (and then cancel your membership if you don’t want to continue).

Common Questions:

Do I have to be a current Greystone parent to participate? No! Alumnae, former parents, and friends of Greystone are welcome too.

What does it cost? The Greystone Parent Book Club is free!

What aged child is this book geared towards? The concepts in this book are best suited for parents with children in Kindergarten through High School, but even someone with younger children will get some great ideas for the future.

What is expected of me? This is not going to be another “to-do” to add to your schedule. We hope you’ll enjoy this great book, read a few pointers on how we recommend connecting camp concepts to the ideas from the book, and that’s it! We will be sharing some thoughts and questions on our social media during our Book Club timeframe, where you can engage with us if you’d like, but for our first Book Club, we aren’t expecting much.

What if I get behind? No big deal! The newsletters will be waiting in your inbox for when you catch up with your reading.

Is this a Christian book? The Secrets of Happy Families is not a Christian book. However, in our newsletters, we will be connecting some of the lessons from camp to the concepts suggested in this book.

Will you be doing any Book Clubs in the future? We hope so! Let us know what you think and any ideas you have, including suggestions for future books.
