The Awesomeness of Camp

These past few weeks without camp have just been so weird. After spending an entire year planning all of the details for the summer and then living in the camp bubble for 12 weeks, coming home is the pits! As we’ve all been missing our 2nd home, I couldn’t help but think about some of the best (and funniest) moments of the summer…some moments that just make camp what it is. Hope you’ll look back with lots of smiles on these great summer memories:

Synchronized Swimming: When 200 girls walk around in swimsuits for two hours without a care in the world – pure awesome.

Talent Shows: High school aged girls dressing in amazing costumes and rocking it on stage? That’s camp for you.

Fish: Snapper down the shirt anyone? #lochedith

Food: Just a portion of the ingredients needed to make a part of the lunch meal for just one day. Hilarious.

Photo commitment: The perfect picture is a camp necessity, and there is a strong level of commitment to get that in-action snapshot.

Big reveal: Camp is full of surprises, especially at Banquet.

Costumes: Speaking of Banquet, there’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you walk on stage in this number.

Skits: Planning and details go into making a skit a true winner. Our Senior group surely knows how to bring-it on stage.

Wildlife Wednesday: With outfits like these, it takes the mid-week, hump day camp tradition to the next level.

Weiner Dog Social: Camp’s newest (read: greatest) tradition. I heard of campers eating 7 fully decked out dogs for the event. That’s serious dog-love.

Team spirit: Nothing says team spirit quite like head-to-toe team-color. Bet you see this color in the shower for days after!

Puppy yoga: Namaste with the pooches.

Doggy color: Speaking of our favorite pooches, remember that time Jimboy dyed Meme red for the Fourth of July and it still hadn’t come off in mid-August?

Free Murray: Enough said.

Too much Tuna: Tuna. Lily and Dierdre. Harrison’s hair. Perfect.

Cheerleaders: Nothing says camp like a boy in a dress. Looking good men.

Jimboy: Speaking of dresses, Jimboy in a skirt is pure camp fun.

Dance Contest: When you try to explain the dance contest to Greystone-outsiders, you may want to use these words: one-piece, flail, mud, props, jerking, spazzing, etc. Get it girls.

Laundry: One day of Laundry at August camp. That’s some stinky clothes.

Opening Day: When you dad is really excited to drop you off and jump in the photobooth with you. Dads for the win!

Bear: What better sight than seeing the Opening Day photobooth bear carried down the road? Camp Creepy.

Godspell: PRE…PARE YE THE WAY OF THE LORD.

Protect Your Counselor: Some serious headgear is highly recommended. A winning camp strategy here.

Miss Greystone Beauty Pageant: The things our counselors will do for their campers.

Miss Greystone Beauty Pageant winner: Wearing your crown and tiara to Carnival to serve grilled cheese? Amazing.

Overnights: When the Junior group sends up lanterns, and one gets caught in a tree, and all the girls start screaming, “WE ARE GOING TO BURN CAMP DOWN” at the top of their lungs…oh, camp at it’s best!

DMCs: No matter where you are or what you’re wearing…

Popcorn: Cat Lee dropped the gauntlet and delivered. No leftovers at the most popular Carnival station of the summer.

Thunderhead: Riding a horse in your one-piece on a mountain trail? Now that’s a sign of a really good camp time!

EP hosts: What more can we say about the highlight of the summer – Cat and Garth for the win!

Taylor Swift: Killing it at EP with the greatest of all the greats: the Senior Lip Sync performance.

Waterpark: When 100 girls take 7th period Waterpark at August Camp…

Senior Celebration: When your campers tell you that you’ll be singing one song, but actually serenade you with another…that’s some serious camp love.

Baby hands: Just terrifying.

Dirty: When you get slightly dirty and then realize you’re camping out for the night.

Dance Battle: Where camp dreams are made.
