What's Happening?

A quick word about yesterday. Such a great opening day! The weather was perfect, the girls enthusiastic, the classes were fun, the mealtime singing was fantastic, and we went to bed quickly (I think the entire camp was asleep by 9:00). Opening day is very important to the success of a camp experience. We are very thankful and are already reaping benefits from the good start.

My favorite moment of the day came when the girls ran into the Pavilion for our first “Assembly”. The bugle blew at 3:00, letting everyone know that Rest Hour was over and it was time to have our first meeting. The girls busted out of their cabins and ran toward the newly renovated Pavilion (it is bigger this year, a big request from the campers last summer). As they approached the entrance they were greeted by two lines of counselors clapping and cheering as they entered the building. We call this the “Royal Reception” and it is AMAZING! A little slice of heaven.

Hebrews 12 speaks of the “Crowd of witnesses” that surround us at all times. The counselors at camp embody this principle… each one focused on encouraging the campers in love… this is our primary job and their leadership inspires the girls. Even young campers get into this routine of encouragement and it makes for a very sweet community of love.

Love is marked by patience, gentleness, kindness, self control, and unselfishness… and love leads to Joy. This is the theme this year and we hope that you will see the effects of a joyful spirit in the next two weeks. Camp is a good place to be… thank you for making it possible.

We encourage you to write hand written letters (solid gold in the eyes of the campers) and emails (good for referencing recent camp activities/events to show you are engaged). Many of you wrote cards and letters to be delivered on the first week of camp, soon you will depend on the mail service (so anticipate a 3-4 day delivery time). These might be the only hand written letters your girls receive this year (they are gradually becoming very rare). We encourage the effort, it is very special to get such a treasure delivered at camp!

What’s Happening:

  • The weather is overcast with perfect temperatures (80 degrees with chance of rain in the afternoo). We might get rain e but that is not a problem. We are used to rain at camp.
  • Dinner last night was Spaghetti, big salad bar, roasted green beans, and cheese cake.
  • Breakfast Today: fried ham and apples, fresh biscuits, big fruit and yogurt bar, cereal, oatmeal
  • Lunch: Chicken Tenders, tots
  • Dinner: Steak Fajita’s
  • EP: Tentalow Lip Syncs

A quick word about Lip Syncs… they are AWESOME!!! The bonding effect of preparing an act to present to the entire camp for EP is wonderful. The girls choose a song and work out the choreography. They are nervous and giddy as they gather just before their cabin’s turn and when they take their positions under the bright lights the excitement is palpable. Their acts are fairly short and “punchy” with a big finish. As they finish and run off stage a ROAR of applause follows them as they get their picture taken to remember the moment. They hug, jump up and down, squeal with delight, and chatter without ceasing as they review how the act was performed… then run back to the “pit” to watch the next act. It is my favorite EP of the session for the effect it has with the girls!

Thank you for making camp a part of your summer.

Thank you for reading the blog.

Thank you for appreciating the unique way camp facilitates growth in your girls. We strive to surpass all expectations.
