August Camp!

Many of you are new to Greystone, or at least relatively new (60% have only been to Greystone one previous year) so it is possible you are a bit concerned about what is about to happen. Two weeks of sleep away camp seems like a long time… we get it! So this one’s for you!

My great-grandfather started Greystone 99 years ago. Back then there was only one session and it was “the big one”. Eight weeks! And every single camper was new to the experience. Every single parent was a trail blazer, trusting, and courageous (for there was no tradition of summer camping - imagine what the neighbors said!). We have it easy compared to those guys.

The good news is that most of those campers came back in 1921… campers and parents alike loved what camp camp provided and they wanted to return. It has been like this ever since. So relax, this is going to be a wonderful experience in every way.

We are comitted to providing the best camp possible. At this point in the year we have our most experienced staff, our facility is fully sorted out, our program is smooth as silk, and two weeks is the perect amount of time for a grand slam home run experience. Campers are going to have a blast and they are going to grow in ways that will astound.

There is nothing like camp for fun. It is like the best sleep-away party ever! The girls make friends in a wide variety of settings (cabin, classes, dining hall, assemblies, and everywhere in between) and they gain confidence in the process. The activities provide things to do (and they are awesome), but the real value in camp comes from the people and the time.

The people become lifelong friends (camp friends are the best friends… you who have attended camp know this to be true). The time allows for character development (particularly unselfishness and thankfulness). Add it up and you have an experience of great value.

The blog will walk you through every day, informing of what is happening and of why it matters. We encourage you to read the blog. We encourage you to write hand written letters (hint: go ahead and do a letter for the first three days of camp and leave it with us on opening day… genius). We encourage you to relax (we will let you know if anything is happening with your camper… don’t worry, but do pray a lot!).

  • We assign bunks so there is no need to rush to camp on Opening Day. If you come before 8:30, you will have to stay in a waiting area.
  • At 8:30 camp officially opens and you can move into the cabins.
  • We schedule after parents leave, this is an opportunity for growth and a wonderful cabin bonding time. Allowing campers to take whatever classes they choose is part of the Greystone experience (We allow girls to change classes if they want).

Thank you for sharing your girls. This has been a remarkable summer and we can not wait to end it with our Best Session Ever!
