A Wonderful World

Today we once again enjoy a beautiful blue sky, a bright warm sun, and light breeze whispering in the pines. We continue to go on fun rafting, hiking, and riding trips. We are having fun in classes, enjoying some great food, writing some profound observations in journals, reading some great books. It is a wonderful life… it is a wonderful world.

We enjoyed watching “The Greatest Showman” last night, all the girls singing at the high points. We stayed up a bit late and slept late this morning (but ate a normal breakfast in the dining hall and were on time to classes). About 150 girls are gone from camp (either rafting on the Pigeon River, hiking at Bear Mountain, or riding at Thunderhead) and their absence changes the way camp feels. We miss our friends but are looking forward to everyone returning later this afternoon.

The big talk in camp is about tonight’s EP. The Dance Battle was announced over a week ago with a funny video:

The girls remember this event from last summer (our first Dance Battle) and they are fired up about the glory and fabulous prizes that will be showered on the winning team. We started with 30 teams and whittled them down by 50% during tryouts. Tonight we watch the best 15 perform in an EP marked by intensity and halarity. It is super cool, very different from all other EP’s. The girls love it. The trophy is on display in the dining hall with each year’s winning team proudly engraved for the ages. Wonderful!

  • Breakfast: Sausage and Cheese Grits with Scrambled Eggs
  • Lunch: Shepherds Pie
  • Dinner: Chicken Enchalata’s

About camp food… it is really good. We serve home cooked meals (everything made from scratch) all the way down to our famous home baked bread. We put great enhancements on every table: Spanish olive oil, Italian balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper grinders, and hot sauce. We offer an incredible salad bar with vegeterian and gluten free options at every meal. We deliver cold apples at 11:00 AM and cold watermelon at 3:00 PM. Ice Huts not only have a never ending supply of pellet ice and cold water, but also string cheese, granola bars, and bean chips.

We put a lot of effort into assuring our food not only satisfies but delights the campers. When a growing girl enjoys a meal she is more likely to enter into her classes with gusto and engage with her cabinmates with kindness. We love the impact that food has on our community… it is wonderful!

The whole world is wonderful but we notice its beauty when at camp. Here we delight in the morning fog, the afternoon showers, and the golden sunlight light at dusk. Beauty is best appreciated in the company of friends.

What a wonderful world indeed.
