When We Consider The Stars

When was the last time you went outside on a clear summer night?

If you are like me, it was a long time ago… and it was most likely not awe inspiring because you were not really focused on your surroundings. Street lights alone make the stars nearly impossible to see.. and that is a shame for evey night the stars put on a show that astounds those who are quiet enough to notice.

I’m not sure that we were “quiet” last night, but we certainly were astounded by the majesty of simply playing outside at night. The weather was perfect, no clouds, warm temperatures (lows in the 70’s). Even the moon cooperated (a waxing crescent sliver of a moon that rose in the western sky as the sun went down). Bottom line… the stars were breathtaking, the fireflies were fun, the s’mores were tasty, and the late night fun was memorable. It was so much fun.

Today we are all a little bleary eyed as we stroll from class to class. Not a whole lot of energy but everyone is sharing stories of their overnight experience, comparing notes and finding that the stars and the s’mores were an essential component to every memory. There is also a lot of excitement about rest hour this afternoon!

The details:

  • Donuts (Krispy Kreme), sausage, yogurt, for breakfast
  • Meatloaf and mashed potatoes for lunch.
  • Chicken Piccata for dinner.
  • EP is the ever popular Counselor Talent Show
  • Tomorrow morning we run Stumblers for the last time, T-shirt Day!

Camp is going very well. Classes, Cabins, Special Events, Food, Staff Engagement, Camper Enthusiasm, Facility Function, and Weather have all been as good as I can imagine. Even the animals are happy (horses, puppies, chickens, pigs, and dogs are all in peak form and loving camp life)! The credit goes to God… it is appropriate that our theme this year is Joy!
