Best Camp Ever

Greystone is about to finish it’s 98th summer. Each one stands out in sharp relief in the bright light of God’s perfect mind and He has a perfect sense of which ones were particularly good. Now I don’t claim a perfect knowledge on how this summer has gone, but I do have a strong opinion that this has been our Best August Session Ever!

We focused on August Camp details all year (mostly details relating to the counselor experience). We ultimately came up with a long list of things to make August Camp fresh and new for our counselors who have been working all summer. We changed little things that campers would never notice (routines in the dining hall, time off options, changes to program). Changes that the campers have already noticed (Camptivities, helpers in the cabins at bedtime, new Morning Assembly routines). In the end, it has led to a playfulness that suits this session perfectly. Happy counselors make a happy camp!

We are loving our time with your girls! They are loving their time with us in a way that inspires all. We are so glad to have this little dose of happiness before we close the gates for another year. August Camp is inspiring improvements for all sessions, a fact that makes this year special (normally we take lessons from other sessions and apply them to August Camp). I think it is a safe to say that this will be our Best Summer Ever!

Today is another perfect day… 80 degrees, no chance of rain. Tomorrow begins the rain for the session (every day shows 60% chance of afternoon showers), but the temperatures will remain mild (no days higher than 80 degrees). Wow!!!

Food:

  • Breakfast: Pancakes, sausage, real maple syrup
  • Lunch: Cheeseburgers (we make our own burgers… char grilled!)
  • Dinner: Poppyseed Chicken (the second most favorite meal we serve at camp!)

EP tonight will be Team Fires. This is a fun outside activity that gives the girls a chance to show off their spirit… lots of crazy green and gold outfits, tatoos, socks, glasses, hair ribbons, and tutu’s. We learn the traditional team cheers and the men staff assume the role of cheerleaders (wearing dresses, of course). The girls love it all! When we light the team fires it seals the night as one that was special in every way. Should be fun.

Thank you for choosing our camp. It is a wonderful gift to everyone: your girls are having a blast, but more than that, we (the counselors and directors) are doing work that matters. Camp is all about living a life of service with joy. Such a life provides a delight that is hard to explain. We are grateful for these last two weeks of the summer and will be sad to see it end. Already getting nostalgic for the summer of 2017… it was the Best Summer Ever!
