Yesterday’s horse show was wonderful. My mother arrived at the very last minute to present the Championship trophy. The Libby Hanna Miller Horsemanship Trophy was introduced last summer and will reside in the Greystone Stable as a reminder of the excellent shows that are enjoyed at camp… a connection from the campers today to the campers tomorrow. This will probably be Mama’s last summer to present the trophy, making this year particularly special and poignant. Several of us teared up as we saw Libby genuinely loving the moment. We thank Jeanne Ashmore (Riding Director from the 80’s) for suggesting the trophy, Laura Hollowell (Director of camp) for donating the trophy, and thank Lisa (Jeanne’s daughter) for another great summer of riding.

A quick word about the Derby Day feast, served as a super nice picnic during the show. The tables were covered in ivory table linens, there was an abundance of very nice (and difficult to prepare) “Kentucky themed” food items, and we served mint iced tea in fancy cups. It would have been much easier to do a standard picnic (sandwich fixings, chicken strips, salad, chips, fruit) served on plastic tables… but this is the time of the summer when our staff shines! From kitchen, cabin counselor; extra effort is the norm. Why do we work so hard?

Because all of us (camper and counselor alike) love camp and want to make these final moments special. The kitchen crew functions with the efficiency of a very good restaurant… yesterday’s picnic provided a chance to prove their abilities to a community that they love. They take such opportunities to go all out and perform as a team to accomplish a difficult outcome, kind of their “super bowl” moment! The Super Bowl moment for the drama program was enjoyed at EP. The play was amazing.Watch it today on Livestream if you get a chance. The cast was superb and the crew accomplished an almost perfect production of a delightfully new play. 90 Minutes has never passed so quickly! We laughed a lot and were constantly turning to our friends after a great line. What a wonderful moment!

Today is Christmas in July and many are still wearing their stocking caps that were given out as favors during the play. It is a hot sunny day again (temperatures in the 80’s, no chance or rain). Tonight will be our Closing Vespers, tomorrow is Banquet, Hard to believe.

Can’t believe it is almost over. We are praying for safe travels for you all… soaking up the final moments of our Best Summer Ever!
