Satisfaction

The play was SO CUTE!!! We could not be more proud of the Directors, Cast, and Crew who worked so very hard to bring it all together in the last minute (always the way it is in the theater). The girls were thrilled with the entire experience… from the Horse Show in the morning to the Play Production in the evening, it was a perfect day. The girls are out in classes, working to pass levels and finish projects. There is great intensity that is off set by a very “laid back” relaxed minority of girls who are mostly interested in reading a good book or having a good conversation. Everyone is basking in that wonderful feeling that arises at the finish line. A sense of accomplishment that is deeply satisfying.

The Livefeed is still up and will be there until this evening. One of the things that we struggle with at camp is the appropriate ways to help parents who want to know what is going on at camp. The blog best accomplishes this goal, but other services are also helpful. Photographs are very important and we are committed to giving you better photographs every year. Photographs not only show you what your girls are doing while they are here, they also encourage conversations when they return home. Campers LOVE going through the pictures from camp… if you sit with them while they are looking you will be treated to a hundred little stories that you otherwise would not know!

Video, particularly live video, is problematic. Our attorneys are examining the Livestream service to confirm that it meets the high standards for online content. There are other issues as well… bottom line, livestream might not be a service we offer in future years. We are looking at it very carefully but in the meantime I hope you enjoyed the show!

I love this time of camp, for campers and counselors alike it feels like everything is right with the world. Everything to look forward to and nothing to dread. NICE!

Some things that we think are worthy of consideration:

  • There is a book and Netflix original series based on the book called Thirteen Reasons Why that is BIG negative influence with the sixth and seventh graders (I think it was intended for older audiences)… I have not read the book nor watched the series but am going to do so after the summer. From what I hear the book is better than the series. I suggest parents check it out (I do not encourage children to see it) and be aware. We should be prepared to have loving conversations about the subjects raised (it appears to be a big part of the culture these days). Adults need to be included in these issues.
  • Cellphones & Screentime… the girls enjoy having rules with technology. Consider banning phones from the dinner table, limiting nightime use, and make sure you have full access to the device. There is a nation-wide movement to encourage whole communities to wait until 8th grade to provide cell phones. If large numbers of parents make this rule, it is easier for children to accept. One of our Greystone moms (has 2 girls at June Camp) is a leader in this organization and we could not be more proud!
  • Conversations… the campers are loving their time with their friends and their counselors. They LOVE to talk about ANYTHING and those conversations are memorable! When you are with your girls intentionally encourage such moments when they arise. The opportunities are many, especially when you are first united on Friday morning.

Tonight we will have our last Council Fire and close the evening with a vespers candle ceremony at the flag pole. Our beautiful vespers programs “bookend” the summer with the image of light and the feeling of love. Such a great moment in camp, sets us up for a BIG FINISH tomorrow.

Food today is pretty sophisticated and really delicious:

  • Breakfast is Eggs Benedict… surprised?
  • Lunch is Chicken Piccata and Orzo
  • Dinner is Poached Salmon

We have found the high protein snacks (Kind Bars, String Cheese, and Bean Chips) are filling an important role… girls really enjoy these healthy snacks. We are very busy and very happy.

God is Good!
