The Production EP last night was delightful. Such great dancing, singing, cheering, “stomp”, guitar, and even some basic juggling! You would have been proud of your girls, they have learned so much! We know that you want to see such events and from time to time we try to give you the option of “attending” a camp event with livestreaming. Tonight (at 7:30) we will have our first live video feed of the summer during the June Camp Play (You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown). If your daughter is a part of the show or if you have a keen interest in live theater, take this opportunity to be a fly on the wall. It is sure to be a lot of fun!

Simply click here, campgreystone.com/live, to see the live feed from 7:30 to about 9:00 tonight or anytime in the following 24 hours (we leave the recording on the website for one day).

If you do watch the play, we think you will be impressed. The girls work very hard at doing a good job and all that hard work really pays off on the big night. They will know their lines, their blocking will be flawless, the singing and dancing confident and of high quality, costumes and props will be surprisingly good… the play is our best EP in many ways, we hope you like the show!

A little backstory on the play is worth mention. Hearing the actors has always been our biggest challenge. The pavilion is actually a pretty big live theater venue if measured by audience size (we have about 700 people watching the show). So many people absorb a lot of sound, it means that microphones are needed if a young voice is to be heard. We have tried every trick in the book but have finally determined that there is no solution but to go with the “real” wireless microphones that are used by the pros. Starting two summers ago we started a the process of upgrading our wireless technology (buying 5 of these very expensive microphones every year). This year we will have Fifteen girls with the good microphones and I think having most of the main parts wearing the good microphones will make for a much better show.

There are a lot of “mountaintop moments” at camp and many of them occur during this last week of camp. They are wonderful touchstones for golden childhood memories and we are sure that many girls will never forget them. Sometimes they are made during a sudden downpour during class (we take such moments to either play in the rain or gather under a gazebo and talk). Sometimes they are during big productions that have taken weeks of practice and come together in the last minute. The details are as varied as life, but somehow made more memorable because of the intensity of our community. We love camp for the mundaine and the mountaintop moments… they are all good for building character!

But first we have a big day to enjoy! We will continue to work on levels, finish projects, and enjoy playing with our friends. The Big Horse Show will also be a major focus of the day (girls have done “in class” shows already… this is the show in which only 50 girls were invited compete). The horses are beautifully turned out and many of the girls are wearing their finest riding attire. We have a visiting judge from Tryon and have set up a sound system to announce the classes. It will be a lot of fun!

Food today:

  • Breakfast: Pancakes, Sausage Links
  • Lunch: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Peas
  • Dinner: Taco in a bag (this is a great favorite of the campers)

Weather is about perfect… there is a good chance of afternoon showers, but we love those! Crescent Moon last night was absolutely stunning! Unfortunately, the girls were in bed and our overnights are over… but it really was beautiful.

Thank you for checking in. I am off to the Horse Show!
