Now it is hot!

Today will be the hottest day of Main Camp… interestingly, not as hot as it was at one point in June Camp (when it was 93 degrees), but plenty hot enough for me! The high temperatures today is forecast to be 90 degrees with about 90% humidity, so we have the girls drink lots of water and put on lots of sun screen. The ice huts will get a workout today (I am very curious if any huts run out of ice at any point in the day, so far they have always had ice available).

The Corn Roast was so much fun. The food was amazing (best ribs we ever smoked), the weather was perfect (nice sunset, wonderful summer feeling in the air), the music was engaging (Kat gave a wonderful performance, lots of dancing), and the feeling around camp was “chill” (girls were all over camp just hanging out). All in all, just what we wanted for this important stage of the summer.

The last rafting trips go out today, the “Skip Year” girls will enjoy camp for the day (leaving this afternoon), and everyone is seeking shade as they do their activities on this sunny day. It is amazing what a difference the shade makes when there is no air conditioning! Everyone is thankful for the many trees and gazebo’s of camp. We are working hard to pass levels, for we know that another council fire will be coming soon; but not tonight!

Tonight will be a Group Night… We have been planning these events for a long time, each one is VERY fun! Hanna Kate’s group will go to Putt Cove where they will enjoy slushies, play in the water, and decorate flying lanterns (as the sun goes down they will light their lanterns and watch them fly into the night sky). Cecelia’s group will have White Hall (the only air conditioned camp building) to enjoy a spa night and cooking program. Catherine’s group will go out of camp and enjoy a night at the roller skating rink in Hendersonville. Caroline Hill’s group will go to a semi-pro baseball game (both the skating and the baseball group get money to buy treats at the concession stand). Hilary’s group will come to Greylodge (Margaret and my house) for a fancy catered dinner. The senior group will go to our mountain top property for a spectacular “glamping” overnight. It is a very big night!

After our big night we will be ready for a break, so tomorrow will be our “Do Nothing Day”… we will announce this at lunch today, giving the girls the encouragement of a morning to sleep in and rest. I will tell you more about what we “do” on “do nothing day”… it is a TON of fun.

This week’s theme of “relax” is drawing to a close. Soon we will transition to the big programs that mark the ending days of camp. It is amazing to look at the calendar and see how few days we have left! Thank you for your continued support and love of camp.
