Opening Day Junior Camp 2012

Well, we’re off to a GREAT summer and Junior Camp session 2012! Opening Day weather was beautiful…the weather was mild, and in about 1 1/2 hours, we moved in 325 campers in one of the smoothest opening days ever. Your girls were so cute as we saw them running across the padgent court this morning, with you walking behind them carrying pillows and blankets. We met many of you at the Dining Hall reception where we served coffee and the world famous Greystone scones! We especially loved seeing our many alumnae who stopped by to visit the table with your daughters.

Our day started with an all camper assembly at 9:45 where we introduced the girls to our amazing staff! We have the neatest Junior Camp cabin staff…they are SO cute and they LOVE your girls!! Our out of cabin staff are also wonderful…..many of them are former campers and counselors who love to come to camp just to be part of Greystone. We have such a wonderful time together, working to make each Junior Camp SAFE, HEALTHY and HAPPY!! Our out of cabin staff teach the activities that your girls go to each day…every day their schedule will be different with the exception that THIS year we will be offering Water Park twice (by popular demand on last year’s end of camp surveys)!! I wish you could have heard the cheers from the girls when we made that announcement in the assembly!

After introductions, the campers had cabin pictures taken, had Health Checks, then went for their swimming evaluations….then on to lunch where we had chicken fingers, tater tots, a wonderful salad bar, and homemade brownies for dessert! It was a delicious kid-friendly first meal in the Dining Hall, and by the end of the meal it felt like the girls had already been there a week! After singing songs at the end of the meal (we determinded that today’s favorite was the song Happiness), we had announcements and the girls went back to their cabins for Rest Hour.

In Rest Hour, the girls recieve mail and may quietly rest on their beds reading or in many cases taking a nice nap. Of course, today was not a full rest hour and we are still covering many of the “orientation” information in their cabins, but they did get about a half an hour to rest…we all loved that!

After Rest Hour, we have candy shoppe, then on to our first three classes of the session. As the day has progressed, it had gotten warmer, so I know those girls taking water park were especially excited about the afternoon activities! Your daughter’s health is very important to us, so we do stress the importance of sunscreen, drinking lots of water and washing hands frequently! When they are finished with their classes, they will go to their cabins to learn how to do clean up time at Greystone. Then, we will head to flag lowering and our opening day dinner, which will be spaghetti, salad bar, fresh baked bread and more!!!

Thank you for such a GREAT day….we appreciated your great attitudes, smiling faces, and especially your lovely daughters! They are such a blessing….we love having them here to experience this very special place, and know that you will be so impressed with how much they have grown in this short week we have together when you pick them up from camp on Friday!

Have a GREAT day! I will be back in touch tomorrow….Katie
