Challenge Day

Another perfect day.

Seriously, the weather is perfect! The girls probably don’t really notice (we have fun no matter what… I seldom hear the campers talking about climate unless it is raining) but you should know that it is a glorious day! A cool breeze, sunny skies, low humidity, and the promise of a perfect day in the mountains. When the snows of January arrive, it will be days like this that we remember fondly!

We are having Challenge Day this morning. At Main Camp the entire camp schedule is interrupted with the games and traditions of Challenge Day, but at short sessions we find it works best to work team competition into the regular class schedule. So the girls wear their team colors (Odds are green, Evens are gold) and have little “competitions” in every morning class. The counselors keep score and at lunch the team scores are announced to thunderous applause. It is fun, good natured and a nice addition to the camp spirit at this point of the session.

We have now been here long enough to have settled into the routines of camp. The bells and bugles do not surprise or confuse us any longer and we recognize familiar faces everywhere we go. The dining hall songs are sung loudly, the tables are marked by smiling faces as the girls tell each other the stories of their days at camp (which makes for a very loud dining room… we change tables on Monday in order to introduce the girls to more friends, a side benefit will be that the noise level drops appreciably when this happens).

Carnival was a big success last night (of course). Tonight we will celebrate our “Birthday Ball” for dinner (all campers with birthdays at camp eat dinner at the Head Table with Margaret and me) and the Talent Show (camper talent is “real” talent, a variety show of significant quality). Tomorrow we will enjoy our Stumblers running club and a relaxed day of worship and rest. Camp is about to prepare for the final push toward banquet day… excitement is building… a big week is over and a big week is coming… life is good.

Thank you for checking in. Have a Great Weekend!
