The Great Day Life at Home

Camp is amazing isn’t it?

As I look back at last summer my mind is a blur of fun things that we did together, great meals that we enjoyed, an endless stream of perfect sunsets, and a feeling that is hard to describe. Every day is GREAT… and yet when we leave camp we often don’t feel this same way.

Homework used to rob me of my “great day”. Friends (or more accurately, my lack of friends) used to rob me of my “great day”. Depression, anxiety, or even what food I eat often robs me of my “great day”… is there a way for me to feel as great at home as I feel at camp?

The answer is YES and it is found in the lessons I teach at Breakfast Club: growing every day in the four fold way.

  • Physically - Eat well, exercise, get lots of sleep, and accept with gratitude the way God made you (it is a blessing when we do not look like swimsuit models).
  • Mentally - Be curious about the world that surrounds you, learn things at school every day (and share those things with your family at dinner), delight in God’s wonderous creation!
  • Socially - Smile a lot (it works at home too), make new friends every day, be unselfish in your friendships (don’t just hang out with people that make YOU look good), and don’t forget your camp friends.
  • Spiritually - Read a little bit of Scripture, pray, and be thankful to God for His many blessings every day. Sign up to get the Greystone Daily Devotion if you haven’t already done so (it is a great way to include Spiritual Growth every day).

If you grow in these four ways you will have a GREAT DAY. It takes a little bit of effort but remember how you did it at camp… you know how to do this and if you do you know how great it feels. Imagine what a whole year of living this way will be like! I can’t imagine a better way to make this year the best year ever!!!

We love you and miss you dearly. Thank you for reading the camp news and for shining your light wherever you might be.
