Stumblers #2

The sun rose at 6:24 this morning, temperature was a perfect 65 degrees, time to run!

I hit the track before the campers so that I can “focus” on taking pictures when everyone else arrives at about 7:45. The peacefulness of camp in the early morning is sublime: sounds of geese and ducks are joined by the songbirds and nothing else. It is the perfect time to just enjoy God’s creation and think about the blessings of life.

Margaret and I heard our last child give her Five Year speech last night. It was a significant moment but one that I have not yet processed. The pages turn in life whether or not we are ready. Sometimes it is good to go for a short run in the quiet of the morning and just bask in the moment.

The program was very beautiful under the Dance Tent by the lake. We watched the sun slowly set, the moon appear, and the stars come out while the Senior campers (all 37 of them) gave their speeches. The girls did an amazing job and kept their composure very well. Often this turns into a “Tear Jerker” of a program, and we did have a few of those, but mostly it was a celebration of friendships and commitment. These girls love each other and they love camp… that is an inspiration to us all.

Our second Sunday will be a lot like our first, a great day of rest with a great lakeside concert to finish things off. We are all getting a little tired and a slower paced day will go a long way toward preparing us for the big week to come. Thank you for checking in, hope your Sunday is as great as ours will be!
