We eat most meals family style. Campers sit at a table with a counselor, and home cooked food is brought to the table. The counselor serves the food, and everyone eats together. Campers switch tables each week. This allows campers to sit with different people and meet new friends. Some of the best camp friends are made at your table each week!
Your vision of camp food might not be accurate for most camps do not have a kitchen like Greystone! Under the direction of Gervais Hollowell, our kitchen makes everything from scratch. We bake literally all of our bread fresh every day, we serve fresh fruit and berries every morning, a full salad bar with humus and chunky vegetables for lunch and dinner, all sauces and soups are made from scratch, a huge smoker for real NC BBQ, a wood fired grill, and state of the art kitchen (remodeled in 2010) combine for a remarkable food service. Our menu does not rotate (it is rare to ever eat the same meal twice in a camp session) and we encourage the girls to try new foods (from steak to salmon). Lunch and dinner always boast a fantastic dessert (Oreo pie, blackberry cobbler, apple cake, chocolate chip cookies, etc.).
The food at Greystone is something that every camper raves about! On our surveys each summer, campers always say that the camp food was one of their favorite things about camp. Throughout the year, we receive calls in the office requesting recipes for our delicious food!
Why we comeWe do not cook with any form of peanut products to avoid problems with campers who have peanut allergies and we do not use deep fat fryers.
