Kitchen Staff

Working in the Greystone Kitchen is an experience that will change your life forever! You will learn to work hard, play hard and get along with other people. In the course of a day, you will help in feeding over 700 people 3 exceptional meals a day. You will also find time to play group sports such as Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Basketball, Tennis and others that we invent as the summer rolls along. There will be time for running and lifting weights as well as summer reading. We tie everything that we do together with spiritual truths that we apply to our everyday lives. If you are willing to work harder and have more fun than any of your friends back home, the Greystone Kitchen is the place for you.

Who

To be a kitchen worker you must be at least 14 years of age and have permission from your parents to work. The primary responsibilities of the first year employee is to wash dishes. We feed 700 people three meals per day so as you may have guessed we have a lot of dishes, pots and pans. Because of the large number of people that we hire for this job the work is relatively quick and, believe it or not, fun.

Greystone kitchen rules

It is our policy to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8).! In order to create a community of trust and love, it is essential that we believe in the word of God and strongly uphold its doctrine. We ask that our staff exemplify these ideals in attitude, action and speech. It is vital that staff member’s conduct always reflect their faith. We ask that you be able to represent the Christian lifestyle with a positive attitude and wholesome speech.

You will love that, when working at Greystone, you are among a staff that is like minded, loyal to you, and excited about this ministry. The Greystone community is refreshingly bright because we all work together toward common goals of integrity, loyalty, honesty, kindness, and truth.

Drugs

A kitchen staffer caries two fresh pizzas from the ovenWhile under contract, our staff does not condone, or personally use drugs, tobacco or alcohol. This includes the appearance of impropriety (i.e. going to parties or hanging out with groups who are using these substances).

Appearance

Modesty of dress should be considered at all times. Brief bathing suits, t-shirts with beer slogans, or inappropriate fraternity / sorority party shirts, should be left at home. Men should be clean-shaven and have hair neatly cut above the collar. Men may not wear earrings while they are at camp. We do not allow the public display of tattoos, multiple ear piercing, or body piercing.

Days off

Everyone, except the counselors, has Sunday off. Your days off are the perfect time to explore the area if your parents would like to come take you out for the day. Parents are allowed to pick you up Sunday morning and you don’t have to be back until 10:00 pm on Sunday. Bringing your own car is discouraged but if your parents insist it must be cleared with the Kitchen Director.

Men staff and dating

Men should be prepared to give selflessly of their time and energy to accomplish the seen and unseen tasks of a large group. Only college age counselors are allowed to date and it must not interfere with their work. All other fraternization will result in immediate dismissal.
