Write your Penpal

Write your Penpal
Pen Pals from Camp

In the springtime you will receive a card with the name and address of another camper who is coming to camp. She is your daughter’s penpal, a fun and helpful tradition everyone loves! Be creative! Encourage your camper to share her wonderful personality with this other camper. She might want to send a picture, she will certainly want to write a letter and tell something about herself, she might want to exchange e-mail addresses. She might want to make a nice care package full of useful camp things... It can be really exciting to meet your penpal face to face after a long springtime of such communications! Many nice friendships have been made this way.

A Few Helpful Suggestions

The penpal system is a wonderful way to make a new friend; however, it is very disappointing if your penpal doesn’t write to you. Each year we get calls about this. So be very responsible and write to your penpal the minute you get her name.

Please Do
Make certain your daughter writes her penpal immediately.
Be creative!
Be patient – some campers are slow to write.
Request your camper's penpal be in her cabin if that is important to you.
Write a second time if you do not hear from your penpal. The second letter usually does the trick.
Please Don't
Procrastinate.
Ignore your penpal – sometimes our girls need to be reminded to write.
Simply email (we deliberately do not give email addresses or phone numbers). Try to get your camper used to writing a letter.
Assume we will put your daughter’s penpal in her cabin. If you would like your daughter to be in the same cabin as her penpal, you will need to request this on your Cabin Request form in the spring.
