Wrapping Up

Part of the magic of camp is finishing camp.

Finishing well is a big part of the camp experience. We finish well in the cabin (keeping the cabin clean, spending free time talking, playing, and dancing). We finish well in our classes (passing levels, finishing our projects, performing our talents). We finish well in the Dining Hall (singing loudly, setting, serving, and cleaning tables quickly), the Assemblies (all the moves to the standard Praise songs are well known, we get quiet quickly, we exit in an instant when dismissed), and the programs (Council Fire and Closing Vespers will be very special tonight). Finishing well makes the time spent at camp feel complete.

This is one of the aspects of work at camp that I absolutely love. At camp we are able to begin and end an important life event in a short period of time… there is nothing like the sense of satisfaction that comes from doing a big job well then knowing that the job is over and was done with excellence. It is the feeling that the campers will go home with and we celebrate that feeling with them!

The EP last night was amazing. About 15 acts performed to perfection by the Dance, Drama, Music, Fitness, Jump Rope, Modeling, and Cheerleading departments. The evening provided a mountain top experience for the performers, but also for the audience (who delighted in seeing their friends do so well).

Tonight will be even better: Awards given in Council Fire (where we gather around the fire and talk of “important things” and recognize achievements) followed by the beautiful circle of light around the flag pole (every person in camp holding a candle as we finish the program). It is memorable and special for even the youngest camper. I can’t wait.

Today will be a busy one as the girls rush to pass levels so they can have an award tonight. It will also be a busy one for today is when we begin to pack our bags to go home. It takes a fair bit of time to organize everything back into bags and get those bags tagged so we can get them home in the appropriate manner. The packing process is also fun… the girls are very excited and you can only imagine the process in a cabin of 10 campers! Everyone is helping each other out and chatting as the music plays and the counselors go from girl to girl. By the end of Rest Hour today, we will be organized for the first bag departures tomorrow (we pick up UPS and airport bags first).

You might be interested in how the Early Bird enrollments work. Camp ends on Friday and that is when the Early Bird enrollments open. Simply go to your account online and sign up for the session that you want… easy as that! The catch: you only have two weeks to do so. On August 21st the Early Bird enrollment time ends and we will open camp to girls who are on the Wait List… miss the deadline and you will probably go onto the Wait List. So act quickly to avoid that disappointment (the deposit is fully refundable till November 1st, so there is no risk at this point).

We are grateful for your support and welcome any suggestions you might have to improve the camp experience. We are never satisfied with a summer (there are always ways we can improve)… never satisfied but ALWAYS GRATEFUL. It has been an amazing summer, the best we have ever had. We give God the Glory for the days, weeks, and months that combined to such a magnificent effect. We give you the credit for making it possible. Thank you for sharing your girls and considering camp to be worthy of their time. It is such an honor.
