Home Run

Sometimes it is best when the months of careful planning DON’T work out.

Greystone LOVES Drew and Ellie Holcomb (both are talented musicians, have come to camp for years). Their concerts on the lawn are epic and their time at camp (they do morning assemblies, go to classes, talk to cabin groups) is special in a big way. Their professional careers have taken off and yet they always worked in a visit to Greystone. This year’s dates were only going to allow Ellie to come, but she had to cancel at the last minute (she is pregnant and we completely understood). I told the girls the bad news at lunch yesterday, along with the plan to “think of others” rather than ourselves in such situations. The EP was thus turned into a “support” of Ellie!

We broke into groups and made a HUGE camp wide “Get Well Video”… it was SO CUTE and will be a big encouragement to Ellie and her family. Afterwards we gathered by the lake, built a bon fire, and sang praise songs as the stars came out. Chills ran up my back as I listened to the girls singing. It was sublime. Beautiful in a way that touched us all. In the many memories of this summer that will be made, THIS was the best one so far. It could well prove to be the best moment of the summer. I am so glad it worked out this way.

A quick word on Photos. We work hard to give you great photographs, but often we need to step up our efforts. The general quality of photos should be very good… we are working on it but are not there yet. Our goal is for you to find many GREAT shots that you can download and make a part of your permanent collection of favorite pictures. The natural and unrestrained joy that shines on the girls faces during their time at camp is wonderful… sometimes we can snap a quick photo that captures the moment. That being said, we can improve.

We are meeting with our photographers to work on their technique. These photographers are just counselors who snap photos as a duty each day… they all have skill, but often they get more caught up enjoying the community than working their craft! We will continue to work on it. With any luck, you can download about 200 photos this summer to assemble into something special!
