Camp Greystone is accredited by the American Camp Association.
We expect a lot from our counselors. Counselors are responsible and accountable to the rest of the staff. To give you an idea of what working as a counselor entails, we've broken down counselor responsibilities into the following categories.
Campers
Greystone counselors will....
- Live in a cabin with campers.
- Take a primary responsibility for the health, well-being and happiness of campers each term.
- Model Christ to campers by words and actions.
- Lead daily devotionals for the cabin.
- Recognize and respond to teachable moments in the cabin during daily activities.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
- Set a good example for campers in all areas including; actions and words, cleanliness and hygiene, punctuality and sportsmanship.
Camp Activities
Greystone counselors will....
- Be assigned to specific activities to instruct or teach throughout the day.
- Participate in all programs and night activities of camp. (Have a blast! Your enthusiasm is contagious!)
- Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers' day including morning wake-up, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, and getting ready for bed.
Parents
Greystone counselors will...
- Update parents with a post card during the first week of each term on their child's well-being.
- Show excitement in meeting/greeting camper families on opening and closing day. (We want them to feel comfortable with their child's camp experience.)
Men's Staff
Men, yours is a special duty, at camp and throughout your lives - you are called upon to serve in many ways. While cabin counselors are busy with the girls, men are quietly at work in the background, making preparations for meals, activities, and special programs. Every day at camp depends on the self-sacrificing service of our men.
We hire men in all areas of the camp and count on your strength of character & body (i.e. moving trunks, beds, etcetera...).
Greystone Men's staff will...
- Support the cabin counselors.
- Work a program area (i.e. climbing, kayaking, etc.)
- When not doing program area related jobs, you will be working with Gervais Hollowell as support in the kitchen or as needed. (Note: there is a separate kitchen staff but men help facilitate mealtimes and evening programs.)
Although we rely on you to be a positive role model and a support to the community at Camp Greystone, men do not assume a counseling ministry (although many do choose to teach a Sunday School class).
