Dear Staff Prospect,

Thank you for your interest in Camp Greystone. Greystone has been in the Miller family for 88 years and God continues to bless us and make each year better than the year before. We know that He uses the efforts of wonderful counselors who give their time and their lives to make camp special for the girls who come each summer. Without the counselors camp would not be possible.

The application we are asking you to fill out is lengthy and detailed. Our desire is not to take up your time or frustrate you, rather to help you. We take very seriously our responsibility and commitment to the campers as well as to you a prospective staff member. We know that a summer is a precious thing. We want to meet your expectations for this summer and, while doing so, make camp better than ever for the campers. In order to make those things happen we need to ask you some personal questions and probe your opinions on some controversial matters. The application will give us a frame of reference for who you are. When we do our job right from the start, you end up cherishing your time here. Camp can be much more than a summer job; it is a platform to have significant impact on the lives of the campers as well as a lifelong reference point and a springboard for lasting friendships with other counselors. We are responsible to the campers and to their parents to ensure the girls are led by women & men of character and commitment. The number one request parents ask of us is that their child (children) have a committed Christian counselor. You may have the opportunity to be the kind of role model that parents would be proud to have involved in the lives of their children.

Camp is a lot of fun. We have both in-cabin and out-of-cabin staff. The in-cabin counselors have 8 to 10 girls of the same age (ages range from 6-17) and teach an activity that you enjoy. The out-of-cabin staff teach activities and support the in-cabin staff. There is no need to be an expert on either of these fronts; your attitude will determine your success. Enthusiasm and your own enjoyment of camp are what set the mood. We have a full schedule all day long with the campers, and then reserve many nights (from 10:00pm to 12:00am) as time for you. We strongly encourage you to come for the entire summer (approx. 10 weeks– June, Main and August camp). This is the way to truly experience camp as it takes the first part of the summer to really learn camp and how to be most effective in your ministry. You will leave with a deep sense of satisfaction after investing this kind of time into the lives of the campers. If you absolutely cannot come for the three main sessions (June, Main and Aug.), then you should plan on coming for at least 2 sessions (except for Junior Camp session– it can stand alone as an option). There will be staff training period before the campers arrive for Junior Camp and June Camp, which you are required to attend, depending on the sessions you work. We do give you some time off in between camp sessions before you begin preparing for the next group. The session dates are as follows:

2009 Sessions

Session Grades Dates Rates Availability
Junior Camp Kindergarten to 4th Monday, June 1 - Friday, June 5 $1,000 Coming Soon
June Camp 1st - 7th Monday, June 8 - Friday, June 26 $3,500 Coming Soon
Main Camp 3rd - 11th Tuesday, June 30 - Thursday, July 30 $4,850 Coming Soon
August Camp 1st - 6th Monday, August 3 - Friday, August 14 $2,500 Coming Soon
We will be accepting applications for the summer of 2009 by June 15th, 2008. You may also join the waitlist for 2008 and have first priority for next year.

Although pay is not grand, you can save almost everything you make since all expenses are covered while living at camp. A college freshman counselor who has never been to Greystone before and is assisting in a department would expect to make $180.00 per week. From there, based on experience & age the rate increases. There is a $400 bonus for working the full 10 weeks (which adds $20 a week to begin a new staff member at $200 AND bonus’ based on certifications).

We will get back in touch with you very soon after you send us your application. If possible, we would like to arrange an interview face to face, but sometimes a phone conversation is the best we can do. Checking references takes time, but we will get back in touch as soon as possible. Staff contracts go out daily through December/January and once our positions are filled we start a waiting list.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this application thoughtfully and honestly. We appreciate your willingness to do so and look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

Kelly Carew
