Monday... HURRAY

I feel sorry for people that dread the return to work on Monday mornings. At camp, we quite literally jump out of bed with keen anticipation of another week in heaven on this day of the week. We love the prospect of a full week and intend to make the most of every minute! Sure we are tired, our muscles are sore and our voices a little hoarse; but we go from moment to moment with a genuine sense of appreciation for the fun that surrounds us.

The weather today and all week long will present another shockingly perfect setting for camp… a cool mornings followed by warm afternoons… so great!

Some things that have made the list of “favorite things” today are:

  • Production Night… about 2/3 of the campers will perform acts that were perfected in classes. Great Fun! I will be a guest performer in a Jazz dance (a first).
  • Projects… Classes will only meet two more times, thus all the fine arts programs are working diligently to put the finishing touches on their projects.
  • Patches… passing levels in classes is a big priority for many girls. If they want to do so, they will have to work hard today and tomorrow!
  • Food… tonight’s dinner is Taco in a Bag and the girls can’t wait (a bag of frito’s that you dump taco fixins into… really junky and really good)!
  • Tables… we changed tables in the Dining Hall today, our last table for the year. So Much Fun to meet new friends.

Every EP from now on is a BIG DEAL. Tonight will be a huge production, tomorrow we will have a HUGE horse show in the morning (if girls want to skip a morning class to watch their friends ride they are welcome to do so) and our big play in the evening. Wednesday will be Closing Vespers and Thursday is Banquet Day. Momentum is building and it is clear that this is going to be a hugely successful session.

I could not be more proud of the campers (who have entered into every event with enthusiasm) and the counselors (who have fun working harder than they have ever worked before). That we are finishing this “golden” session with perfect weather seems somehow appropriate.

Thank you for making camp possible. Our 97th summer is off to a great start thanks to your girls. We think that you will notice significant growth in them when you reunite on Friday. They are WONDERFUL!

Keep those emails and letters coming. A letter mailed today will make it here by Banquet Day, starting tomorrow you should just send emails. There is something very special about the hand written letter congratulating a significant accomplishment. Camp is a big deal, you should congratulate your girls on finishing it so well. Write them that simple message… it is SO WORTH IT!!!
