Get to Know the Greystone Horses

It’s no secret that our Greystone horses are the best in the business. They love their jobs and cannot wait for you campers to get back to Tuxedo! You know they’re gentle and friendly, but do you know how cool our camp horses are?

Gari final.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Gari is the oldest of them all, though you would never guess it by how excited he gets about his hay. He is 33 years old… 101 in human years! He was quite the hot shot back in the day. He has even shown at Madison Square Gardens! Though his showing days are over, Gari loves camp life. He doesn’t miss a day without his morning nap in the hay at 10 o’clock sharp.

Dolly ella.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

The Norwegian Fjords, Ella and Dolly, are sisters who are attached at the hip. Their manes are roached (clipped nice and short) to show off their thick, powerful necks. These girls are strong, but sweet as can be, and love nothing more than a morning nuzzle.

Phantom is famous around camp for his flowing locks and charming good looks - he’s quite the ladies’ man! His Gypsy Vanner breeding gives him a thick mane and tail and long “feathers” on his legs. Grooming Phantom is no joke! When you see him this summer, make sure you look closely, you might be able to see his white mustache.

Raindrop sharp.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Raindrop is the smallest horse we have, but don’t let her size fool you, she has quite the sassy attitude! You will probably catch her hanging out with her best bud, Stormy. Though you won’t find her jumping in the ring, Raindrop is a beloved member of our barn community.

Limerick sharp.jpeg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Limerick is a camper favorite. Whether you want to work on trot polls or jumping, Limerick is your go-to-guy. He’s got pink skin underneath all that white hair which burns easily, so he has to wear sunscreen in the summer. You could say he’s a classic Greystone horse, wearing Laura’s Trifecta of Happiness all summer long!

Emmett sharp.jpeg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Emmett is a flea bitten grey who loves to play. He used to be a racehorse in his pre-camp life, but now loves a slower pace of life at Greystone. He even has a tattoo on his upper lip of his racing registration number. If you give him a treat this summer you might be able to catch a glimpse of it.

Shamrock.jpg?ixlib=rails 2.1

At just 7 years old, Shamrock is the youngest of our herd. He’s a great lil’ jumper but also loves a good trail ride. If Shamrock’s markings look familiar, the star of the horse movie Hildago looks just like him. But as far as we know, being a Greystone horse is as famous as he’ll ever get!

Finn sharp .jpeg?ixlib=rails 2.1

Finn is our 13 year old Clydesdale cross (that’s right, the big Clydesdales you see in the commercials!) This tall boy is really a gentle giant and a total goofball in the barn. He loves long walks on the trail and wet, sloppy kisses. You’ll probably get one from him this summer!

P.C. is a camp celebrity. She’s been teaching Greystone girls to trot all her life. Her name stands for Pork Chop, though we think she’s much prettier than that! She is in love with her boyfriend Charlie and has been “working out” to be ready for all the little girls to take lessons on her in ring 3.

Our four-legged members of the Greystone family have SO much personality, way too much to capture in a blog post. Make sure you check out all the horse profiles, live on the blog now.

Stop by the barn this summer to get to know them in person. They can’t wait to get to know you, and not just for all the treats!
